Scijad baka foot654 The Amazing Mr. Tommyos! It's my opnion that you arn't a real bassist if you use a pick. Picks are for guitars. Nothing against you, but I don't like that psudo-slap sound you get from playing with a pick. It sounds half-assed. That's just me. ...Yeah, I play with my fingers. i agree, that it the same thing i think, it just isn't a bass if you dont use your fingers I disagree... sometimes it's just right for the song to play with a pick... I mostly play with fingers but there's something raw and punk about the sound you get when you use a pick on the bass... I really like that sound for some reason, but only if it's done cleanly. meaning that I agree that if you only play with a pick you're not a real bassist. however if you expand to other styles but simply prefer it it's okay

i never play with a pic!! you can get the exact same sound with slapping!! but i do play with a pic for a certain song...My friend of misery by Metallica is the only song i will play with a pic on my bass...but now im just ranting...so im going to stop...

I don't think you can. At least, it sounds completely different to me.
But yeah. I learned and play with my fingers, but I actually enjoy using a pick on some of my band's faster songs. Plus, I like playing with a pick, and in the middle of the song tossing it to the crowd and then resuming playing with my fingers.

What's in your head ~
Fingerstyle, slap if I feel like it. I originally learned fingerstyle, but I was then told to use a pick. I'm very clumsy with picks, though. I can't really catch the strings with one.

I like finger plucking... picking sounds bleh with the wrong equiptment..
For fast parts, I'll even pluck with 3 fingers..
Yet my rough fingertips stay nice and soft...yay!
