Now you all probably wonder: What the heck do those two have in common? Did that Democalyps dude finally lose his mind and marbles?

As for that second question: Yes I did, but that was long ago, so let's not go into the details of that... A rather painfull story including me, a bunkbed, bad dreams about swimmingpools and a nasty nosedive... >___> *ahem*

Now back to the first question: Do those two have something in common? Yes they do, and it's not something lame I usually come up with! Surprise surprise!! ((I am so drifting off topic here)) Actual rant starts here by the way ^^

Rightey, as some of you might've noticed: The n00bs from the Chatterbox have once again started to invade the Exchange! (Oh no, let's all panic...) There's nothing we can do about it, they've just all started some sort of mass-emigration and have already started their assault. This is not the first time that I've noticed this happening. A while ago (I can't pinpoint the date) the exact same happened. The exchange was peacefull and packed with trained exchangers like it has been for a time now. Then suddenly, an invasion of n00bs started, causing lots of irritation amongst the exchangers. Anti-n00b clubs and stuff appeared like flies on a dead corpse and it all became quite a mess. So far, I realise I still haven't quite answered the question, but I believe some of you may already know where this is going.

The n00bs invading cause chaos and bad stuff to happen, but there is also a bright side for exchangers! As most of us all know: n00bs don't have a single bit of knowledge about proper pricing and investment strategies. It's a common phenomenon that n00bs sell and buy their items for extreme prices. From this you could conclude that the more n00bs we have in the exchange forums, the better the odds are that you'll get either a very cheap deal on an item from one, or can sell one of your items for a ridiculously high price. What had happened, is that the exchange was packed with good exchangers. People who know very well what the prices are, and it had become harder to get easy and cheap deals that provide good profits.

And here is where the vulcano comes into the scene, since this event is quite similar to an eruption. The eruption itself causes great chaos, but when that chaos has died down for a bit, you'll find a rich and fertile soil again! biggrin The eruption in this case (I'm so gonnah state the uber obvious now...) would be the mass-movement of n00bs to the exchanging forums, and the fertile soil would be their presence and their n00bish sale-activities.

This I figured after a comment from Angel of Forgotton Souls. It's 10 past midnight, and I'm simply not feeling like heading to bed; I needed an excuse to stay up again, so hereby this rant. ^^ Sorry to bore you lot with it! xd Hope it has been helpful in some twisted way though... whee

now that you mention it, i've seen a similar thing occur in the vend, people putting up items that are either over or underpriced. and i've seen bidding wars erupt that lead to prices way over the norm... hmm...

I've learned that it doesnt matter what you're selling in the vend, if the buy/bid price is under 2000g, the n00bs attack it and fight for it. You can make a bid last only 20min and notice how many people start fighting and keep outbidding the other. (Happens right after 4pm EST - when school lets out)

right now i dont consider any of the list prices to be real. in perhaps 20 days, people will have decided on some stable prices. The only regret i have is not owning 10 kikis.

Huh what? Hellz is defending the n00bs!?! What the s**t is this?!

Hmm, I personally dislike it when users state things like "Oh em gee go back to chatter box the exchange ish not for j00 n00b"

First of all. Lets think back, not to any certain date in time but more of a time when YOU were new, now i'm guessing most of you saw the sign with a holy light background that said "Welcome to gaia" After searching for countless hours only to figure out all you had to do was click "Forums"

Any ways this is not my point, the point is, users for some STUPID reason seem to think someone new to the exchange is going to come into the exchange and have the skills of someone whos been exchanging most of their gaian "life" Now on a serious level how many of you can say "Yeah when I went into the exchange I had ready every single sticky and price guild and yanno I was an exchange whore"

Nah not happening. So next time you make a crack about n00bs coming into the exchange i'd like you to think about when YOU yes YOU were first in the exchange, a scared little newb with little to nothing only knowing how to roll play as Inuyasha

So unless you were an evil genius like Michael Noire, then I truely doubt you were a top class grade A exchanger to begin with.

That is all.

blah, im not an evil genius, im just a masochist.

I must have been out of my mind back in October to create a "no mules, no quests, no donations" policy. The only thing my policy has allowed me to do is look around with the Eyes of... well..

here...

Deut. 16: 19
Thou shalt not wrest judgment; thou shalt not respect persons, neither take a gift: for a gift doth blind the eyes of the wise, and pervert the words of the righteous.

2 Chr. 19: 7
Wherefore now let the fear of the LORD be upon you; take heed and do it: for there is no iniquity with the LORD our God, nor respect of persons, nor taking of gifts.

Prov. 28: 21
To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.

Clearly there is a pattern here.

Deut. 8: 17
And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth.

2 Chr. 1: 11
And God said to Solomon, Because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king:

2 Chr. 1: 12
Wisdom and knowledge is granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches, and wealth, and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall there any after thee have the like.

So what then does this mean? What is the purpose? It clearly illustrates a lesson concerning Where people spend there time, and unlike the real world, everything you say and do in Gaia is recorded.

Ps. 49: 6-7
They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:

Prov. 10: 15
The rich man?s wealth is his strong city: the destruction of the poor is their poverty.

Prov. 18: 11
The rich man?s wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

Prov. 13: 11
Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase.

Prov. 13: 22
A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children's children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

Feature idea anyone?

Prov. 19: 4
Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

xD
Ah that time.. When we all thought we could get Devil Tails in the stores for 1k xD

Fair enough Hell you have a damn good point going off.

Yet have you noticed how much Gaia has changed in the last month?

The place used to be a spring hope!, a place to relax and enjoy the festivities of talking to a few people from different dots on your wall mounted world map.

The exchange was a lovely life, Fair enough all being that i really cannot comment being here since October o4.

Yet it has changed, The newer Generation of Gaians that do not have any self respect, nor any for anyother lifeform on gaia are ruining it.

The Exchange for example was alot easier to handle back in the days before o4 christmas.

people were kind, by god someone GAVE me a dark cape in the first few weeks i started. Yet didnt know what to do with it and sold it to the store =(

Anyway, Back to the noobism thing.

Gaia as a whole since January o5 has significantly changed, Its obvious that the once cutsey site has grown into a more teenager geared volume. Yet if you think about it the newer Gaians have no respect at all.

We can base this to real life issues aswell:

13-14 year olds are running the streets committing robberies, bashing old people and everything down here in the Shitty and rather deformed UK.

As for even older Gaians, that were once good people, in the exchange they have and more so becoming Greedy and tactless to beat the fightback noobs.

Its not just the new people that want items for free, but maybe even ourselves that try to teach them the ways of how they got them

I got called a jerk today for not accepting a 500g offer for a butterfly mantilla, sweatdrop

AOFS- You raise a VERY good point one in which I strongly believe. Question is, what is the root of the problem?

Okay lets start by going to the front the page of gaia "Gaia online a rollplay Community" Gaia hit 2 million users if I recall....You just don't have a community of two million. Back in the day so I hear when there were very little users (Yes i'm speaking of the '03's eek ) Everyone was familar, and it was just a common thing to be nice I suppose. And it still should be.

So my idea of the problems
Greed. The new users to be mostly truthful have no chance of getting the older items. I joined in march. I could've gottin ports and possible mini's ALTHOUGH since then a lot of things have changed prices like....Inflated..Truth is, a user coming to gaia now is gonna have enough trouble posting. Reasons:

Back in 03 and even 04 when a user posted an older user would inform that nicely that they were indeed in the wrong forum and should relate it in the forum. And if they were nice they would probably post them the link to get there ('cause gaia is a big place yar?) Now, i'm not say there wasn't the few who would flame such users in my opinion those who had their own personal problems would take it out on them or make them feel powerful. Now some users like my self would scold such users and most of the time they would lay off and the thread would die off.

So thats problem one, users being flamed please look at chart below and see how problem continues
User Image

Okay problem one figured out. Back to the gold thing. Truthfuly i'd say the four main reasons gaia is what is it today is:
~The roll playing
~Anime avi's that you can dress up
~Giant chat forum to interact with users with
~ Most important. Gold. Users love the self satisfaction of getting that one item which seemed so far away so long ago. In other words an ego boost, a nice little touch up to that low self esteem which is nice for a lot of the users because some may be having real life problems so they come onto gaia to get away from it.

Problem As you stated gaia has changed a lot. Users are spending multipul hours of time on here...Like myself yes i'm guilty as charged I spend WAY! To much time on here probably more then anyone in the guild due to it being summer break and me having nothing better to do really. Although I hope the month of august will be different. Any ways Putting in such days really is stressful. Sometimes its fun but we all have our limits.

Now then more heading towards the community aspect of gaia. With 2 million users of course we are gonna all have our differences in beliefs and such. Problem? A lot of people have certain things drilled into their minds since a very young age. Example Christanity, this kid is 17 years old, in his prime built to the max, ladies all over him, hes at the top of his domain, since he was a young boy he was taught jesus christ looks out for him. Uh oh problem comes in!

Another user, Wiccan/Pegan since a young boy he was taught The ways of a Pegan, which if I recall aren't very much related..To jesus, Okay boy guys fairly big for their age (using this because usually bigger guys are more cocky and don't take s**t) Any ways back onto my point.

These two guys meet up in a thread. The Wiccan/Pegan boy made a thread. "Yeah rock on people I just learned a hella cool new spell" Ho shizzle this aint' good we got a big buff christian boy who thinks thats a load of s**t.

Any ways I think that was overly done and my point may have been put across, different beliefs hence making different conflicts. The ego boys duke it out in the end with big mean words of" stfu wtf fu" and such They both leave angry. Uh oh here comes the circle ladies, one sees a thread posted in the wrong forum....Hes pissed he flames it. That persons pissed they flame someone else. It never ends.

~Jealousy. Hey lookie here i've got an OMG hat and you don't ^___- Uh oh do I smell a flame war? I think so, newer users been questing for few months so he can get a baddass hat like that and the other dude has one and is rubbing it in his face.

What it boils down to is hate in my opinion. Gaia is filled with hate. I don't like using the word greed due to myself finding it kind of stupid thinking someone can be greedy over pixles ALTHOUGH

Greed and being kind are different. Older users had all the items there really was, why was there need for "Greed"? They didnt have to save up for items that cost 10million gold. Hence they would give. Making them feel good.

Any ways Im sure I could ramble on and on about stuff like this because I simply love to type. But I start to repeat myself after awhile and such so I'll end this.

Hate is a circle. Don't be a part of it.

I forgot what we were talking about.....

I have to agree with you there.
yet can you add that Jealousy does not run without Gloating? wink

Theres a guy in the exchnage, Owns a NM scarf, OMG hat and Sash
yet they are all borrowed to him from his rather rich friends, yet he manages to run around the exchange as if he owns it confused

Im mentioning no names, but to those whom are close to me realise thati have a very personal vendatta against him, friends that he hurt and things he seriously shouldnt have been poking into.

yet thats my problem, I like you hells, made me see a side to Gaia that could possibly fortell its future demise?

-runs to make a new thread on a startling discovery he found a few weeks back-

I would also actually like to make a comment on what I was saying about community

As I stated when gaia started out they were indeed a roll playing community.
But now look, flame wars, hackers, scammers. Not a friendly community. Lanzer's plan for a good community has failed? Maybe not. He is a very smart person. Lets think about the guilds for example. Each in its own is a very small community. So I think what lanzer has done is after his small community was expanded into what gaia is today he put it into groups.

As I stated above every one is different. And as I also stated this is one of the reasons flame wars happen.

What has happened is The admins have made groups of communities hence forth letting those who have interested in what ever join the guild which interest them.

So rather then people fighting over one place like chatter box because they believe in different things. They go can go their guilds and talk to others with the same interest. Hence making it easier. Think of gaia as a tribe. When it gets to big it must expand into other tribes. 3nodding
