Kamali yawned as he strolled through the woods, a smug and content look on his maw. He'd been having a wonderful time staying at the river with Ashe, but sometimes alone time was needed. Kamali, though he never realized it himself, was a rather solitary creature. Even in the past, when he enjoyed running into others constantly for company.. well he enjoyed sitting in feilds and staring at the clouds by himself even more. So he'd spent tons of time with Ashe, and it wasn't that he was sick of her (he didn't think he could get sick of her) he just needed a break to sort out his thoughts.

So the lanky wolf moved around trees and passed bushes trying to let his thoughts form in a normal pattern, his ears perked and capturing the sounds of a few winter birds above. Even though everything seemed quiet... it was almost too noisey, too.

Tag whined softly. He'd really gotten himself into a predicament now! Though normally the little tiger-striped pup could wriggle himself out of the troublesome situation he often found himself in, this one was starting to be... scary.

Tag had been trying to walk across a wide log jutting out of the bank of the river to leap to the other side, when suddenly the log fell into the rushing water. It was nearly rotted through, and it crumbled beneath the pup's paws as he scrabbled to keep ahold of it.

"Help!" Tag whined at last, looking frantically around at the shore was he was carried downstream. "Heeelllp!"

So loudly quiet in fact... Kam thought he was hearing things! Heeelp, heelp... that wasn't a bird! His head jerked left, and then right. Was some one in trouble? His eyes flickered toward the stream, it was a lot wider in this part and the waters were more violent. His eyes landed on something orange rushing past in the water. He shuddered, remembering a time when he was a pup.

He flinched and snapped out of it, racing along the bank. Oh god, he needed some fast thinking. His eyes floated toward the other end of the river, were Tag was headed. Nothing too dangerous... though it looked like rapids. Which ment rocks.

He could always jump in? He didn't think that was a good idea though... His heart was racing and he whined, he could feel his muscles beginning to burn. "Keep your head... above water, kid!" He called out, trying to buy himself time to think.

Ah! Kam just jumped in, spluttering as the current swept him forward. He had an easier time than Tag keeping above water, but now he had to swim toward Tag. He couldn't just watch the little guy drowned, what else was he supposed to do? He spluttered as he struggled to keep moving his paws, bringing himself slowly toward the orange, sopping wet, fur ball.

The pup yelped once more and the last bits of his log crumbled into the river and floated off. He paddled wildly with his forepaws, his snout stuck almost comically into the air as he tried to follow Kam's instructions.

Though not the smartest wolf by any means, Tag had enough sense not to try and talk while fighting for air at the same time. He simply watched with huge, worried eyes as the larger wolf swam closer.

This was definetly going to drain Kamali's energy for the rest of the day. Once he finally got near Tag he made an awkward, forward lunge to try and get some of the pup's fur in his mouth. He wasn't skilled in carrying pups, and no way was he good at retreiving them from a watery death. So if this hurt Tag a little Kam wouldn't be surprised.

He tried not to hold on too tight, but he also was getting his face dragged closer to the water, which was making him awkwardly cough while trying to keep his jaws shut.

He started the strenious swim back toward the bank, after a while he finally jerksed his head and had 'thrown' Tag onto the bank. He scrambled out a few seconds later, laying half on the bank and half in the water, his eyes wide and his breathing was laborous. "Kid... don't... ever... do that... again.." He wheezed out.

Tag let out a sharp yelp as Kam's jaws closed around him and he tried to stay still as he was dragged bodily to the bank and thrown up onto it. The little pup coughed water for a moment, then lay still, watching Kam with tired brown eyes. His tail thumped the ground weakly.

"Th-thanks mister!" he managed to cough out, smiling at the larger wolf. "I won't, 'cos that hurt."

With that the pup stretched his sopping body out on the dirt and closed his eyes. He would sleep off his exhaustion and let the sun dry his fur.

As tired as Kam was he couldn't just let the little pup sleep with nothing to look out for him. After a moment he dragged himself shakily to his paws, shaking off with a bit of stumbling. He tottered over toward the sleeping pup and sat himself down, hunched over slightly.

His eyes flickered over the woods and he had to concentrate hard on not letting himself fall asleep. He glanced down to the pup and sighed, remembering what it was like to be young. He wasn't nearly as adventurous.. was he? His ears perked and his eyes slid toward the bits of sky peaking through the entangled branches. He'd lived a normal, boring... okay life. Filled with wolves coming and going from it... He winced and shut his eyes just for a moment.

He just wanted a permanent home. A safe place. A place other wolves could be safe too... why had that been so hard to ask for over the years?

Tag yawned, his pink tongue curling out of his mouth. He stretched his paws out shakily and curled back up, tucking his nose under his tail and whimpering a bit in his sleep.

After a while, he stretched again, blinking sleepily up at Kam. It took him a minute to remember who the other wolf was, and then he grinned, tail thumping the ground wildly. "Hello again!" he said happily, tottering to his paws and sniffing Kam enthusiastically. Still a little unsteady on his feet, he quickly sat back down, scratching at an ear with his hind paw.

"I'm Tag!"

Kam smiled softly, tiredly. It was easy to tell he wanted a nap, but he could keep himself awake. At least, until he got back home. "Hello Tag, my name is Kamali. Are you alright then, nothing too hurt?" His head tilted, ears twitching as he waited for a response for the pup, concern thick in his voice. If only he'd gotten to spend time like this with his own pups... best not to think of it though.

Tag paused, turning around and around a few times as if to check for any injuries, then sat back down, smiling rather stupidly. "Just a little bruised, Kamali!" he reported cheerfully, tail wagging again.

"Are you okay? You look sleepy." The pup observed seriously, peering at the older wolf with concern on his face.

Kam smiled faintly at Tag's actions and nodded slowly. "I am sleepy, but I'll be alright. I'm glad you're alright too. Is there any certain place you're supposed to be, Tag?" His voice slowly grew serious. He wouldn't ask about the little guy's parents, that might be painful, but he would imply that he'd like to know what a pup was doing alone in this area.
