Hello again. So, how many of you are brand conscious? Meaning, if you buy a food, does it have to be a popular brand, whether you can afford it or not?
Me, I think I am. Actually, basic ingredients for dishes (such as flour, milk, and sugar) don't really matter to me, but when I buy prepared foods and some spices of the store brand, the taste and texture reminds sometimes me of why people prefer the popular brand. And also, there are occasions when I have found that store brands are less healthy than their popular competitors. But other times, some cereals, breads, and cheeses are just as good or better in my opinion.
What about you? Do you feel the same way?

I'm not too brand conscious. I usually go for whatever's cheaper. There are exceptions to this though...there are some things that just aren't as good when they're not name brand. sweatdrop

I agree. Certainly a whole lot better than the price restaurant food, though. Tax is through the roof!

Even though brand and quality counts, I'm too damn poor to be picky. I buy whats cheap but taste good. I only go for brands when I have money.

I buy brand names when they are on sale, even if they are still more than the store brand. Some things, like stewed tomatoes (I love to use them in soups and chili and stews), definitely taste better if they are brand named. I even prefer some brands to others... like for the stewed tomatoes, I like Del Monte better than Hunts. And I *never* use tomato paste ... I use tomato sauce. The paste has a bit of a bitter or burnt taste to me.
If what I need is not on sale, I'll usually get the store brand with some exceptions (like above). Or go without for a while. Snob? Yeah, about some things. biggrin

Brand names seem to make the cost of the food go up to me. I will try lesser known brans and store bands to try them, if I dont like them, I wont buy them again.
Case in point, Making sloppy joes, I tried the Aldi brand of "manwhich" sauce. Brand name -Manwhich is $1.49, Aldi store brand is .59.
Could I tell the difference? Yes. Did it matter? not in the least. it still tasted like Sloppy Joes.
I know people who will only buy certain brands of items. Then they wonder why their grocery bill is 3 times mine.
Yes I do buy on sale with coupons if possible and stock up when I find a good sale.
