Just from the commercials, it seems like a good idea. It probably wouldn't be cheap, since most scientific genes/DNA/so forth testing is not cheap. Yet I never actually looked into it, its just an assumption from the facts i've already seen.
If I looked into it in detail, I can see myself going for it. There's been a lot of sickness in my family, as well as a scary percent that I might be getting cancer in the future comparing both my Grandmother and her sister died of Breast Cancer a year apart from one another. It seems so have skipped my mother's and her two sister's...so I'm quite worried.
In short, yeah. I would be for it. <3 Anything to help with the diseases and problms of today.

It's not cheap. $2000 is the lowest price that i could find. But I could not afford it so i didn't get it, but i regret it now. So if you have the money I would say go for it. After you give birth, they send the placenta to be drained of all the blood. They save the blood. And when you need it, they send for it. Of course, you have to pay for that too. but honestly, if your child has cancer. 2000 isn't too much to pay to save their life.

What about those things you see on the internet that mention a chance to win free cord blood banking? Are they actually worth anything or just internet junk?

i would say if it comes as a pop-up. it's junk! but it is from a credible website i would say give it a try. Just make sure you have some sort of firewall or virus protection on your computer. alot of free giveaways are spam or a virus.

My neighbor's daughter had cancer- neuroblastoma. It is a particularly nasty cancer. They found it when she was 10, she had stomach pains and took her to the ER where they found a football sized tumor growing in her chest/abdominal area. This poor girl endured chemo, lost her beautiful long brown hair, which they decided to leave out for the birds to gather to line their nests. It was so sad to see. Eventually the cancer started to shrink, the toll that chemo took on this little girls body seemed to be almost too much. It was suggested that the parents try for another baby so the cord blood could be used to boost her immune system. It worked she is 20 years old now and has been married for 2 years!! 4laugh

when I gave birth to Emily, they offered to keep her cord blood and take my placental blood in case we needed them in the future. there was no charge, and a sample of each tissue was taken for study purposes at our local university.

Well, that sounds nice. If they offer it for free I'm definately doing it.
