It actually varies from car to car...
and yes, its possible to "drift" in a FF (front wheel), but that's not really drifting ... more like "dragging".
But the basic setting to drift is a lowered center of gravity, negative camber in front, positive camber in back, econ wheels, and a closer gear ratio (depending on how much torque your car has).. eh, ill go more in depth later. hope that answers your PM Ammo.

how bout the suspension set up? how can you tell if it's soft enough for drift?

Suspension:

Spring Rate:
Adjusting the spring rate for drift purposes are usually like this : A stiff front end, softer back end. According to your driving style, play around with these settings in practice mode.

Ride Hieght:
Lower it. lol.

Damper/Shocks:
Have the Bound setting lower than the rebound setting. I have the bound around 5. The Rebound should be around 7. But that really depends on the wieght of your car.

Camber:
Do not look at the camber as ways to get overstear. Look at it as ways to control your car if you have TOO much overstear. Do not touch the rear. Only adjust the front slightly, to have more tire gripping the road, to maintain your car's drift.

Toe Angle:
No need to be adjusted, unless you have an unresponsive car when steering.

If you have all these in mind when tuning your car to drift, you should be successful. Again, It all depends on the HP, chasis, & wieght.

what would u recommend for a beginner drifter car?

For a beginner car i started out drifting with the r33 skyline and the corolla/ae86/trueno/levin. The silvia (s13) is also as good.
You can find them both in the used car lots for around 10-15k.
