Charlie Saevah

PostPosted: Tue Jan 23, 2007 6:25 pm

((Just a random name. ._.; ))

Set in Chicago, Illinois

Charlie Saevah had been with his quartet group for over a month as they readied for this moment when they were invited to Chicago for a yearly jazz concert, and he thought that he could practice the show and gather more people to the concert by practicing in the open. The notes from his sax seemed to gliss in a tasteful lullaby as passing citizens turned their heads.

This was it! This was it! Roxie had magically made it to Chicago! After a grueling audition she managed to get a spot in the ballet Swan Lake! Mind you she didn’t get the part of Odette--but nonetheless she managed to pass the audition which lead her here! The part she was cast in was one of those various roles, a random swan-turned-human, a dancer at the ball where the evil Odette comes to play and other non important roles. But in the theater there were no small parts, only small….dancers?

“I get to dance on stage! I get to dance on stage!” She muttered happily to herself, a bounce in each step she took. One of those moments where she truly seemed like a child about to get a bag’s worth of candy. Though could one blame Roxie? This was going to be her first performance as a member of the American Ballet Company. She would be working with the best ballerinas all around…and some of the cutest--and hopefully not gay--men around.

She was heading to the complex where she and her fellow dancers would stay in for the time they were performing here in Chicago. Her ears caught the lullaby of a saxophone being played, it had been some time since she listened to something that wasn’t played by an entire orchestra. Shrugging her shoulders, the young woman followed the sound of music with a small smile on her face--she was still excited about her first performance. The young woman found it a bit surprising to see someone randomly playing their instrumental in a crowded area…with no hat or any other container near by to catch coins or anything else to reward the person for playing so well.

The melody calmed her hyper behavior slightly as the notes floated in the air. The guy was very good, for a moment she thought of him to be a professional player. Maybe he was or maybe he was just playing for the heck of it, either way she couldn’t tell as she closed her eyes to fully enjoy the music he played.

The young jazz man looked up from his flowing fingers, the woman that had stayed longer than a lot of other people that had stayed to listen to his music. The others in the quartet would murder him if they found him showing off again in public, but his pride overflowed. His notes seemed to get from a slow lullaby to a fast, but still jazzy march. At the end of the song, he ended with the cliche ending of two high notes followed by to low notes, and Charlie smiled as he lowered the Tenor Sax from his mouth. "Thank you for listening..." He said to the people still standing around. "My quartet is playing tonight at a concert, along with many others, I hope you come!" He announced at least twice before the remainder of the crowd seemed to fade away.

Roxie bobbed her head a little to the notes being played. The player’s way of weaving each note, rhythm and style throughout the entire piece impressed the ballerina a little. After all music--much like dance--was a woven tapestry. If even the tiniest thread was out of place the value of the entire piece would diminish in the eyes of the buyer--or in this case in the eyes of the audience. So there was a concert of musicians playing tonight huh? The young woman pondered the thought for a moment. Should she go? The concert would b e a great way for her to get a taste of Illinois but…

What if there was extra rehearsal? What if the other ballerina’s wanted to do something else? After all going to a concert by oneself isn’t…all that fun compared to going to a concert with a bunch of friends. Perhaps if such a case rose she could play hooky? Wait, what was she thinking?! No! She would have to stay after if the choreographer called for it, after all! This was going to be her first performance as a member of the American Ballet Company! She couldn’t afford to make one simple mistake, even as tiny as playing hooky to see a concert. In these cases being a dancer for a living sucked big time, the things you wanted to attend had to be placed on hold to furnish the last step or piece to the dance you were assigned to perform.

A small sad smile graced her lips, no concert for her tonight but maybe some other time. At least she should pay the artist his dues of praise and money? Well, she couldn’t very well just hand it over--that would seem rather shadyish. Like she were a…woman of other means or a druggie. Neither of which appealed to her at all. Stepping closer to the guy did her hands slip into the cotton linen pockets of her jeans. “You played very well, unfortunately I won’t be able to go tonight but either case you were great.” Her voice was soft and friendly like, ending with a slightly higher pitch of voice to express her delight from the song he played.

"Thank you!" Charlie said kindly, a smile forming on his face at the compliment. He had been there a while since they had first been asked to warm up for the entire concert, and he feared that if he had to play much more, his lips would be shot. "I'll do one more song, then." The brightly-fashioned boy said to the woman before putting the sax to his mouth and playing a different song. Charlie had always been happy to play, and this was no exception as he played the song for the girl that couldn't go.

Roxie wanted to protest a little to hearing another song, but as soon as he began to play there was no sense in stopping him. Again the notes range from high to low, up and down from one pace to the next but overall had wonderful sound to it. She clapped her hands when the song was over, her eyes glancing over to the watch she wore on her left wrist. Well…there was still sometime before she had to go to rehearsal…and all the other dancers were all ways late by five minutes or so. The ballerina should do something in return for hearing such a lovely piece that would be otherwise charged for at the concert he would be playing at tonight. Then again…the jazz playing man could be a psycho who could be stalking his next victim--maybe it was about time to stop watching those Law & Order shows…still. Maybe she could ask him where a good coffee shop would be?

“There was no need for another song even though it was just as wonderful as your last one. But you wouldn’t by chance know of a good coffee place near here?” She asked, weighing out the option of buying him a cup of coffee or a scone.

"Uh... Not really... I'm visiting here, I'm from Mississippi..." He admitted. Charlie felt a bit embarassed at the fact that he didn't really tour around Chicago when he should have, in which he was usually just sleeping in or practicing.

So the guy was from Mississippi? Interesting, Roxie lived in New York all her life thus making her travel stories very short. Though she had met some people from California and Texas coming to New York for the parties, lights and arts--Broadway here they come! But Mississippi? The only things she knew about that place were the food, music and it being located in the south…oh and the river of course! Again she side glanced to her watch, thoughtfully chewing on her bottom lip did an idea form in her mind.

“Well I’m from New York, here to perform actually which is why I can’t go to your performance. But I have some free time right now if you want to get coffee. I’m Roxie by the way.” A smile graced her lips as she offered the option of coffee to the jazz musician.

"New York?" The Saxophonist asked, obviously intrigued. The only time he had heard about the place was when either Hollywood people were filming movies there, or his family's boardinghouse there. Charlie smiled at the thought of coffee. "Yeah, that sounds good! I'm Charlie, but people call me Char-Char..."
PostPosted: Sat Jan 27, 2007 9:06 pm

Char-char seemed like a pretty cute nickname, like a pet name a girl would give to her guy. Ah, romance something the young girl was definitely lacking these days. But with work and traveling there wasn’t much room in there for love. Besides, the only guys in the company were mostly gay and the rare ones that were straight were taken. Such a small pool of opportunities. And it wasn’t as though she was interested in having a relationship. Regular guys and her didn’t mix in so well. Sure she could talk to them but when it came to just dating one, well that took time. Lots of time, like no kissing until the thirtieth date kind of time.

“Okay, I think I saw one a few blocks down. Its most likely a Starbucks, you see a lot of them these days.” She commented, turning a little on her heel to wait for Charles to either put his saxophone away or just go they way he was now.

Charlie chuckled at the mention of Starbucks. "Yeah, like that Lewis Black joke of seeing a Starbucks... Across from a Starbucks." He had always loved that joke, and the comedian, but mostly anyone that was humorous had good marks in his book. Seeing as Roxie was waiting on her, he walked beside her. "I don't want to go back to the auditorium to put Tiny Tim in his case." Charlie smiled, tapping the saxaphone with his hand.

A light laugh escaped the petite girl, the joke was in itself clever and it made sense. How many Starbucks were going to be placed less than a mile apart from each other? That joke called forth a memory of a specific episode of the Simpson’s where Bart wanted to get his ear pierced and the piercing person said, ‘sure but you better hurry up. This place is gonna become a Star bucks in five minutes’. Now with Charles in tow did the girl start walking normally.

“I understand. Besides its just a quick cup, no harm done. I’ll have to get home soon though. One girl with a Starbucks coffee in a room with nine other girls…you’re basically committing a sin there.” She laughed a little at her own joke. Basically all dancers survived on the ‘model’ diet. A cigarette--but she never smoked one of those cancer sticks--and a soda or black cup of coffee. And when one dancer had something so must everyone else, it was only fair--at least that’s what Roxie had been told.

“How long have you been playing?” She asked, seeing the approaching sign of the infamous Starbucks just two stop lights ahead.
