Wow, you'd think those that actually play the guitar would be awesome at the game, weird.
I still think I would fail, I'm not very good at coordination games like that. You can't even look at the notes you're supposed to hit.

Guitar Hero's controls make things too simple for an actual guitar player.
Guitar Hero has a guitar shaped controller, with five buttons and then a flip like button you use to 'strum'.
A real guitar has frets and strings.
To play Guitar Hero, you press or hold down the appropriate buttons. In order to be good at that, you need to memorize which of the five buttons is which.
To play guitar, you hold down the proper strings to play the right chord. In order to play the right chord, you have to memorize which fingers go on which string, and what frets your fingers need to be pushing the strings against.
When going from playing a guitar, to playing Guitar Hero, your mind instantly thinks of hand placements and gets into specific positions, when all you need to do is hold the neck up and push a button, or buttons, at the right time.
This game can't teach you how to play guitar, and doesn't improve guitar skills. Like DDR, it just tests how good you are at memorizing a few things and how quickly you can act. That's slightly similar to guitar, where you need to memorize placements to play chords and play songs, and some require you to move your hand up and down the neck while changing finger positions to play multiple chords in rapid succession, but that's where the similarity ends.
