http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=22693335What is it about people, sometimes? What makes us pretend 'I know nothing', when the opposite is all too clear?
To clarify my thoughts:
Shayna.
I met a girl today. A very.... very interesting girl.
We met at the deli downtown Barton. She entered the room in a fur coat, with the breath of winter still tangled up in her hair. The hair was interesting all of its own; it reminded me of some of the flowers back on the island, sort of a dusky fuchsia or something alike.
She was not quite a local to the city, as I later found, but certainly a mainlander. I never did put a finger down on what she was, but certainly not human; she had wings. Not wings like mine, mind; I doubt we were very similar. Still, we found a fair bit in common.
Shayna was the one to make a connection. Which is very odd, she seems very reserved and concerned about "proper" things, but nonetheless. As I was sitting in a booth and writing thoughts, she came and smiled. Eventually, we greeted and introduced ourselves to each other.
I told her... what was it? Some compliment about her appearance. More force of habit than anything, but she swallowed it up and ran with it. Before I knew it, she was doing that look- the long, deep one, veiled by mascara and looking for excuses.
What really got me, though, was that she was trying to act innocent, even while she was doing this.
So I ended up tricking her. She wanted to play a role with me, so I took advantage of that and tricked a kiss out of her. Either I surprised her a little too much, or I was tricked as much as she had been, because she didn't leave in a huff after that; on the contrary, we spoke quite pleasantly for a time.
I learned that she has Elven family- what are the odds, there?- and that her friends call her Shay. She must not have been sore about the kiss, because she said I was allowed to call her that as well.
Too bad, we didn't get to chat any more beyond that. Still, it was a worthwhile meeting, I think.

(the stranger in the treehouse- coming soon)
Well, I'm not sure if I'm a stray dog or a pet pooch just now, but regardless of definition, I have a roof over my head.
I was trying to spend the night in someone's treehouse. I know, not smart- but it was raining, icy, miserable, and there weren't too many other places to take shelter. I was caught in a neighborhood of quiet homes, and unless I wanted to knock on someone's door at midnight to ask for a warm night, I was out of luck. I saw the treehouse, figured I could be out by morning, and left it at that.
Well, I wasn't out by morning, and I have the lumps to show for it when the youth of the house spotted me in his safehouse. Fortunately, a woman came out to keep the peace, and it all ended up quite nicely. For me, at least.
The woman's name is Arrien. I'm sorry- the Infamous Jack-of-all-Trades, Arrien. She seems to be a typical Gaian, probably in her mid-twenties, unmarried. She acts incredibly indulgent, and seemed to invite me into her home for the sole purpose of that she thinks it could be interesting.
She looks after a boy named Dusty- whose birth parents, I've been told, are both alive and well and involved in his life. I have no clue how to even classify the kid; weird ears, cat tail, hooves. He must be around nine, ten years old... very interested in swords and gems. He was looking at your garnet a bit too closely, so I think I'll have to guard you safely, my friend.
But still, very worthwhile for the sake of having square meals, a safe place, and indoor heating, wouldn't you say? I gather there are one or two people around the house I haven't met, but I'm not really planning to be around that long or often. It's enough to have a place to sleep, I don't think I'll try to bother them more than that.
