"Heron, NO!"

The flurry of feathers only struck her face again as stray, molting plumes fell from rapidly flapping wings. Amber stumbled blindly forwards through the crowd, only just barely making out the great blue streak as he continued just beyond her visible reach.

Ah! It felt good to be alive! He was truly tasting the wondrous winter air now, and it consumed his heart and lungs as both beat as one towards the new day. How sweet it was...besides the glasses of course. It was time for change, and just this morning he'd decided that Amber was much prettier without glasses - so he would do her a favor and get rid of them! He didn't really know where he was going, but he had seen a giant set of spectacles on a downtown shop window, so wouldn't that be the perfect place to go?

A man shoved her as the girl continued after the bird. She'd lost him for a few seconds, but once he was back in sight she followed with a renewed sense of speed. "Come back! I can't SEE without my glasses!!"

So she said, so she said...but the Heron was sure that he could fix that for her with just another few blocks...

Xaxis had been downtown, wrapped in a christmas gift from Lucien. The fur-lined white jacket looked oddly neautral for the raven to wear, but his black and pink hair - along with his wickedly black wings -did wind up catching the eye. The jacket was warm and cozy, and kept him deliciously bundeled during the winter months.

Of course, the jacket only went down to his thighs which meant that his legs were frozen. The mesh stockings, his black leather ankle boots, and the silk fabric that made up his knee length skirt did little to prove additional warmth.

But such was the way of things. For now, the typically jingly one was warm enough to keep on his treck through town. Today, Xaxis had no where in particular to be. People watching was a favored past time of the Birds, and he often enjoyed stalking humanity with his eyes.

Part of him knew he needed to study his future victems, to learn of them and their ways to truly embrace his magic. Xaxis truly wanted to hunt, but earlier failures this morning had caused the sick one much aggrovation and frustration. So now he'd succumbed to the need to people-watch.

Perhaps he'd play with his magic later.

A flurry of feathers, but Xaxis already knew Kin was around. A look over his shoulder, through the crowd, and the smallest of smiles crossed his lips. Well, well, well - and look who it was.

Amber and the heron were on the opposite side of the street. But Xaxis thought it rude to not acknowledge the nearness of Kin.

Salutations, monsieur Heron. Xaxis greeted, pink eyes watching the large bird fly, little care for the bumbling Amber in tow.

Whether or not his Kin responded - he surely seemed to be in some sort of hurry - Xaxis minded not. He'd at least recognized the Bird, and that was all that mattered.

The Heron turned to look towards the direction of the greeting. Ah, Kin. Nothing quite like having himself exposed for what he was by eyes that could see beyond what was. The bird hastily cast a glance back to make sure Amber was still close by to him, and as she was, he led her ever on until he found a presentable perch for himself.

The beautiful one was not for bland entrance. He'd seen how dull a life can be without a little umph into it, and had found that he strongly dissaproved of the thought of over exerted simplicity. He rose a few feet more, casting himself in graceful arch before slender base established itself upon a nearby news box. This flowed into a flourished acknowledgement of his Kins higher standing in the word, before he rose from the bow with crown erect. It settled, and he finally made to return the hail.

Good Afternoon to you, Approaching footsteps, he ignored her for a moment. Is it not cold for one such as yourself to be about? You look as though you'd fare much better before a warm fire than out.

Amber finally managed to catch up, and as soon as she came upon the bird she snatched her glasses and expertly whirled them about to land neatly in their place.

The Heron motioned a wing towards her. You remember my chosen, I presume?

"You are in so much trouble, Mister and....Oh..erm..Hello there." It was just then that she'd noticed Xaxis. Dark orbs blinked in and out of reality, ever rebelious strands hovering before her vision as she traced him from the ground up. Had she not seen him before? Had not those same wings been present in another place? Amber inclined her head slightly. So confusing...first her Heron flies away with her glasses, and now some one that looked so terribly familiar that she ought be guilty for not knowing his name. After all - he certainly was a...unique person. "Do I know you?.."

((Sorry about the wait! I hadn't forgotten, I promise. 9.9; Metaplot just sucked all my creativity. . ))

Xaxis watched the heron's graceful - if a bit showy - display. The raven admired the movements of the waterfowl, enjoying the way it seemed to move so gracefully through the air, as if it were a dance. Such a limber creature, Xaxis couldn't help but feel a spot of envy. It had been a long time since he'd felt the wind through his hair and over his body, listened to the silence that came with being hundreds - even thousands - of feet up in the air.

As a bird, his life had been black and white, and very clear. Once he found Lucien, the only one that seemed to understand, and transformed in to that of a child his world became different.

Much different.

Not just a lack of flight or feathers but . . . the role of humanity and the living was confusing. There were so many rules, so much structure that it seemed to suck the joy out of living.

At least, as a bird, he could do what he pleased. At least, as a bird, he wasn't physically miserable all the time.

But, on that same note, as a bird he didn't have magic or power. As a bird, he didn't have quite as clear a range of emotion as he did now.

Xaxis, feeling quite amicable, gave a little bow in return to the avian. "It is a bit cold for my taste," he agreed, wrapping his arms around himself in a bit of a bear-hug for additional warmth. "But one must keep up with their studies, regardless of winter conditions."

Two magenta eyes - this time without glasses - glanced over at Donna. yes, he remembered the girl with the frightful gaze and nervous being. The woman who could hardly walk without someone telling her to do so, the female that seemed so . . . strange. Easy prey.

Wings fluttering, ever so lightly, Xaxis extended a slight nod in greeting to Amber. "Know me?" He repeated. A little snort. "No. BUT," he continued, "I do believe we crossed paths at a party not long ago." It was true in a literal sense. Donna hadn't a clue about who Xaxis was, his true identity, and his role in the world. She didn't know anything about him! But they had met briefly, and crossed paths.

To Xaxis, there was a difference.

The boy with the glasses! Amber blinked and looked him over a bit.

How astounding...He looked nearly a different person, with only his wings giving away just whom she'd spoken to those weeks ago.

And had been made sport of by...For she'd long ago checked the database for his profile and found that there never was a new intern of his specific detail. Nor had there been anyone else turned away. However, Amber said nothing of it and cast her thoughts to a different subject. It wasn't as though she could do anything about it anyways...

Her attentions to the Heron and arched a brow.

But of course, it didn't bother him one bit. The bird fluffed his plumage up a little to ward off the cold. Slender elegance observed, before in the gentlest of motions he reached forth to gently attempt an inspection of the wings.

Such a sad thing...Hopefully the state of it was only temporary, as the Heron couldn't even imagine what it would be like to be without feathers to warm him.

As such - a great and nearly impossible to ignore desire to inquire welled within him. He was, after all, still so young in this world.

Red rimmed orbs rose to Xaxis's features.

Is it fun?

Being human he meant.

It seems bulky and uncoordinated, and cold. I tore off a piece of a humans ear in this form. Can I do the same when I become so much larger?

Ah yes, there was still his target to get back at. The strike had been very much and understatement to the lethal intent the bird held for such a cruel being, and he was not about to give up so easily upon one so succulently adorned in bright crimson target-paint.
