I recently read an article that was talking about how consciousness exists, and it claims that the one thing that most scientists agree on is that it is created solely by the brain, no "soul" involved...
And that got me thinking a bit really, I had always assumed that there was *something* after death but now I doubt even that, I now think that there is nothing, and that equally that there is no purpose to life beyond survival.
So, I was wondering, what do we all think? Is this "it"? Do we live on in some form? Is there a pre-determined meaning to life?

I dunno.. that's kinda scary to think about. It'd be weird for us to have so many deep feelings and love for so many things on this earth to just not exist anymore when we die.
I think there is something else. I mean what about the supernatural like ghosts and other such things? How would we explain that if what you say the scientists said is true?

All sorts of reasons that could make sence? Aliens? Hallusinations? Power of suggestion? All sorts of things. And we think we think we have such a range of emotions... It could all be another Illusion.

Well, as a fairly religious woman, I believe that there is something after death, despite what science says. Scientists aren't always right, and not everything can be proven.
So I choose to have faith, I choose to believe that when we perish that it is not really the end so much as a new beginning. Not to say that we should choose our time to time, I mean when the Lord chooses to take us.
You may disagree, in fact, you probably do. Fine by me. I'm content excepting my beliefs as fact while respecting other's opinions. :]

gonk Gah!
This is hard to answer, this is my 4th try! ^^;
Yes, I believe a soul exists, as well as ghosts and spirits, ESP and all that.
But those could also have alternate explanations suited for the mind, or dealing with the energy at hand. ^^;

The problem is even if ghosts, ESP and all that are proven false, (just hypothetically) then that still doesn't disprove life after death. The "afterlife" could be totally separate from our current reality, or something else such as reincarnation for example.
