"Remind me why we've gotta go visit this Neko person?"
"Because I promised I'd make a social call sometime." DS strolled up the street, in an unusually good mood. She had been cooped up at home for a while, and it felt good to get out and pay a visit to someone she just felt like visiting. While the feeling was also bittersweet- most of DS's close friends had gone away, or disappeared- it only strengthened her resolve to go and make new friends, and Neko would be a fine start.
Eriol, following just behind DS, nodded dubiously. "And remind me why I've gotta come along for the ride?"
"So that you can thank Layla-chan for her lovely gift." She was, of course, referring to the red and white spirit that had taken to floating around Eriol, though it was absent that day, back at the house with Zvonimir.
"I sent her a present too," Eriol muttered. "An remind me why she had to come too?"
"Because," DS replied patiently, "she could use the fresh air." The unspoken reason was that she wanted Eriol to spend more time with Viviana. She could tell he wanted to, but his pride was getting in the way. A little family outing and motherly meddling wouldn't hurt things.
Before Eriol could get another question out, they had reached the door. DS gave her son a warning look, as if to say "don't push your luck," pressed the doorbell, and waited.

"I'LLGETITI'LLGETITI'LLGETIT!!!"
"BRRRRRRRINNN!!!"
"Layla, DON'T RUN IN THE HOUSE!"
Something crashed to the ground, audible from outside of the door, and then there was a soft thump as something else seemed to fall over. It wasn't until a moment or two later that the door finally opened, a tall blonde haired man carrying a small purple haired girl over his shoulder. His pale blue eyes blinked a few times at the company, more shocked to see the floating whale than anything, unable to move his eyes away from the creature. How was that even POSSIBLE? Was that... was that water surrounding it??
It was like Domonic didn't even see the other three people standing in front of him.
Layla, however, squirmed with delight as she recognized Eriol.
"EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" she squealed happily, holding out her arms for a hug. "ERI I HAVEN'T SEEN YOU IN FOREVER!! Thank you so much for the plushie!"
Well... this was certainly a strange way to greet someone.

DS had to smile at the familiar sounds of chaos from within. She also had to sympathize; poor Neko must have her hands full. Her face was straight, however, as the door opened and she came face to face with someone who was definitely not Neko. Two someones, on further observation. The house was even more crowded than she had thought.
If Eriol's hands were free, he would have covered his ears. As they weren't, he just winced slightly, but nodded. The girl hadn't been that noisy when he saw her before. Of course, then she was a shadow... it was all very confusing, so Eriol stopped thinking about it, carefully set Viviana on the ground, and bent down to hug Layla. "It's good ta see you too," he said, meaning it. "And thanks for the ornament. It, uh, makes a good playmate."
Outcry, who had been hovering some three feet off the ground, swam downwards through the air until he was closer to Viviana's level. Dressed in a red jumper and a white sweater, Viviana stayed stationary, not daring to move until Outcry was next to her, at which point she threw her arms on top of him. The motion caused them both to sway, but the toddler remained on her feet.
Which left DS to deal with actual talking. "Hello, sir," she began shakily. After all, she didn't know this man, and if Eriol hadn't confirmed Layla's identity she might have thought she had the wrong place. "Er... I was hoping to pay Neko-san a visit. Is she at home?"

Layla didn't really understand what Eriol was talking about. Playmate? But... it was just an ornament, wasn't it? Unless, of course, Demare had tricked her again. Curse him! That guy had been getting slyer and trickier ever since he grew.
At the question, Domonic finally realized that there were others, turning his eyes down toward the fox-like woman. He immediatly began to blush, his reaction to all girls, even though his heart sank and he frowned. Oh dear... this wouldn't be easy.
"Ah... n-no," he answered, pulling open the door a little more and setting the fairytale child on the ground. "P-P-Please... c-come in... T-take a s-s-seat..."
Layla, on the other hand, went to investigate the adorable little girl on the ground. She was pretty dark, much like Johanna, and idly wondered why the whale was floating around next to her. Unless...
"Hey, daddy!" she chirped with a wide grin. "I think she's like Izzy!"

"Did we come at a bad time?" DS frowned, unsure of what to do. But the man was waving her in, so she followed, a bit perplexed. Maybe she said something she shouldn't have. Or didn't say something she should have. Like her name. "My apologies," she muttered quickly. "My name is DS. This is my son Eriol- I believe you already met him- and his wards, Viviana and Outcry."
Hearing the introduction made Eriol color just a little- being introduced as nothing less than a father was embarrassing, especially in front of a girl! But he took it in stride and nodded, helping Viviana inside. "Izzy?" he asked, quirking an eyebrow at Layla. "I don' think I know an Izzy. But this's Vivi, an Outcry."
Viviana was focused on putting one foot in front of the other, with one hand on Outcry and one held by Eriol. But she stopped, took her hand off of her daemon, and waved at the strangers. "Haaaa."

Domonic motioned her toward the couch in the living room, where Izumi was standing next to the coffee table with blocks in hand, Relentless hovering close. The little bird seemed to be humming some sort of tune with his wings, and the child was picking up letters on the blocks to correspond with the tune.
"DS? D-does that s-s-stand for s-something?" he asked curiously, before remembering his manners. "Ah... w-would anyone l-like t-t-tea or coffee?"
Layla followed behind everyone else, closing the door once they were all inside.
"That's Izzy!" she giggled, pointing toward the white haired toddler on the other side of the couch. "And the bird's Relentless. They showed up about a week ago."
With that, she shuffled her bare feet over to her, picking up the toddler a but awkwardly, and carried her over toward Viviana. Thankfully, Izumi didn't really fuss, the poor girl merely blinking her bi-colored eyes curiously, not sure what was going on.
Oh, GREAT. Another LARGE creature, Relentless sighed, noticing the whale. This one's even more dull looking than the last one!
"Rere, HUSH," Izumi demanded. "No be mean! Hawwo~"

The house was nice, the girl adorable, and the couch comfortable. But DS didn't have time to register more than that before the question came, startling her considerably. No one had ever asked her that before, and she wasn't sure how to answer. Finally she settled for "yes, actually it does," and left it at that. The offer of tea warmed her up considerably, and she smiled. "Tea would be lovely, thank you. And I think Eriol wouldn't say no to coffee, wouldn't you sweets?"
"Moooom," Eriol groaned, burying his face in his hands. Why did his mom always have to be such a... such a mom? Saying such things, and treating him like he was a child in front of people he liked. It got annoying quickly, and the only way to manage was to ignore it. Instead he focused on the girl that Layla was bringing over. And the hummingbird. That only meant one thing.
Eyes widening, Eriol looked from Izumi to Viviana, who was staring straight in front of her. "Oh jeez, s'another one." They were popping up everywhere these days, and Eriol had to wonder if there was anyone that insane house didn't drag in. "A week ago, huh? Funny, she looks older."
Outcry did not approve of the flying creature in front of him. He eyed it with a beady stare, paying no attention to the girl accompanying the daemon. It was such a shiny, flighty creature, by the looks of it. Pest.
Rather than scolding Outcry, Viviana simply looked at the pair. The bird didn't look like a pest; she thought he looked sort of pretty, but she didn't argue. "Haaa," she repeated, pulling her hand free of Eriol's gentle grasp to wave it at the girl. That done, she draped herself over Outcry again, causing the daemon to bob up and down in the air much like a flotation device would.

"R-right..." he said in responce to both things, decided it would be best to drop the first matter. If she didn't want to tell him her real name, that was respectable. Without another word, he wandered into the kitchen in order to get the things requested.
Layla didn't really understand. She looked older than what?
"I dunno how old she really is," she shrugged, flipping a little bit of her dark hair away from her face. "She literally just... showed up. Daddy said someone brought her here, said Izzy belonged to him, and ran away."
She thought about that for a moment, chewing on her bottom lip softly. The more she thought about it, the stranger the whole thing really did seem.
"Oh well! She's here now, and that's all that matters," she chirped with a grin.
Whatdidyousay? the little daemon demanded, suddenly right in the face of the whale. Was that... water floating around it? I DARE you to say that again, you OAF.
Izumi watched the other girl begin to bob in the air, her head nodding as she watched. Another friend big enough to be carried! Relentless was much too small to do anything of the sort, and even if he were bigger, she doubted he'd let her do something like that. He, after all, preferred to be carried himself.
"Ellelle?" she asked curiously, pointing to the creature. She had no idea what it was, and thought that because of its size like Desperate, it had to be an elephant.

DS raised an eyebrow, but didn't comment further. The man didn't seem to be that talkative, but he was at least hospitable. Maybe she really had come at a bad time, but he was doing nothing to get rid of her, so all she could really do was sit and wait for her tea, and watch the children at play.
"Wait... she came here? Your dad din't bring'er home or nothin'?" Eriol fumed silently. It wasn't fair! How come the older people got their kids home delivered, but the younger ones- himself, as well as Jason and Raya- had to go through library hell? It had to be some sort of trick, some sort of prank the Library liked to pull on young people, and Eriol didn't like that one bit.
Still, it couldn't be denied that missing such a trip through the haunted havoc was a good thing. "Eh. He din't miss much," Eriol muttered sourly.
Wavering slightly in midair, Outcry turned so that one of his eyes, and only one, was looking directly at Relentless. Such a puny thing had the gall to mock him? I eat chum like you for breakfast, he replied slowly. Watch it.
That time Viviana did spare a moment to look at Outcry meaningly. Not nice.
Outcry didn't respond, so Viviana shook her head and looked back at Izumi, trying hard not to let her daemon's swaying knock her off balance. Ellelle? Who was ellelle? Not Outcry, because he was Outcry. "Ouka," she said, poking the whale's squishy tail with one extended finger.
"She means Outcry," Eriol explained patiently. "And what's your name?"
Viviana smiled up at Eriol. "Fifina!"
"Close enough."

Layla tilted her head a little bit, still not completely understanding. What was so special about going to a different library, anyway? Domonic had already gone to one to get her, so who cared about another screwed up place? Hers was the best. Hands down.
She was better than any newbie kid in the house...
"Howja find V... Vivi...ana? Yeah, how'd you find her?" the little girl asked curiously, folding her hands behind her back and rocking on her bare heels. "Did she just show up, too? And how come her pet's a whale...? Does it get stuck sometimes?"
Oh, I do say... BRING IT, the little daemon growled, just about to peck the poor creature's eye before Izumi had quickly scooped him into her tiny hands.
"Rere, NO," she scolded with a frown. "BAD Rere."
Hmph. If only I were bigger, I'd give YOU a thing or two, as well, Relentless huffed, bristling his feathers as he seethed the tight grasp. She was lucky they had to live together. Otherwise, he'd be biting her chubby fingers.
"Ou...kra?" Izumi got out with a blink, cocking her head to the right. Releasing her hummingbird, she reached out a cautious hand to pet the whale, hoping it would be okay. "Petty! F...Fi...Fifi an' Okra!"
Layla was just about to double over in a fit of laughter.
The toddler pointed to herself with a big smile. "Ee...oo...mee!"
"She still can't say it all... That's probably the most she's said, actually. Her full name is Izumi, but I like to call her Izzy."
Next, she pointed to her daemon, hoping Fifi would understand. "Rere!"
Domonic stepped out of the kitchen a bit slowly, carrying a silver platter in his hands. Setting it down on the coffee table, he placed a coaster down on the glass before setting a cup of tea, still with the tea bag inside, in front of DS.
"I h-hope herb-bal is o-okay, as th-that's all we h-have..." he told her while setting another coaster down on the other end of the table, setting a cup with coffee on that one for Eriol to retrieve whenever he wanted. "I b-brought out some j-j-juice for the little o-one, too..."
He kept the small, plastic cup of juice on the platter with the small plate of cookies he'd also brought with him, good for both dipping in the drinks and to just snack on. Apparently, even though they rarely had guests, Neko had taught him very well.
"P-P-Please excuse m-my behavior," the man finally appologized, taking a seat on the recliner that sat kitty-corner from the couch. His face was completely red with blush now, and his pale eyes couldn't even lift from the ground anymore. "I-I get like th-this around all w-w-women... I'm n-not really s-s-sure why..."

"I din't find 'er," Eriol corrected Layla. "She foun' me. In some freaky library with this nutcase that sang disco and tried to trap me an drown me an THEN he stuck me with this one." No, he still wasn't over that little misadventure, even if he was slightly more comfortable with the product thereof who was trying to walk without Outcry's help and doing a shaky job of it. She was cute, at least, and less of a handful.
As for the whale, he had no idea, and just shrugged. "Iunno how daemon's work, really. She's got the bigges' one I've seen, but iunno why. An yeah, he used'ta get mad when I couldn' carry both. But that was afore he started swimmin' like that."
But you're not bigger, Outcry snorted, so you're not worth it. And that, at least in the whale's mind, settled the whole issue. He knew he could take the smaller daemon, and that knowledge prevented him from trying to prove it.
Viviana shrugged, not especially concerned with Outcry's attitude. Instead she bobbed her head up and down in a nod. That other girl got it right! And was saying something back that Vivi had to think to mimic. "Ee-mee. Eemee. Rere."
With minor reluctance, Outcry moved a little closer, bowing forward so he could be touched. But Viviana didn't try to touch Relentless. Both of her arms were wound tightly around her daemon's tail, and she was reluctant to let go.
"Cute name," Eriol commented. "C'mon, Vivi, she won't hurt 'im." Frowning, he tried to tug the girl gently away, but her usually weak grip was firm, and Eriol quickly stopped. "Eh."
Watching this scene from her seat on the other side of the couch, DS was already smiling when the tea was brought in. "Oh, thank you!" she said warmly, taking the steaming cup in her hands and taking a sip without bothering to remove the tea bag. "Mmm. That's perfect."
Eriol took a drink of his coffee- not before adding some milk and sugar- and then began fussing with the juice. "You like juice, don'tcha Vivi? Does Izumi want some?" he asked, the question directed at Layla. "Or you?"
The cookies were quite nice as well, for something not baked by herself or one of her baking connections. DS nibbled one, keeping watch on the others out of the corner of her eye, and almost missed Domonic's explanation. "What? Oh- oh, I'm so sorry! I had no idea." And she blushed too, embarrassed for having caused such a reaction despite her lack of control over the situation. "We are intruding, aren't we?"

The man quickly shook his head, sighing lightly at the thought that he might have come off as being rude. This was always so difficult for him, and if it weren't for the fact that the woman was a friend of Neko's, things probably would have been a little easier. It's not like he could pawn the visit off on anyone else, as he was probably the closest to the demon as one could possibly get.
"N-no no... It's... It's n-n-not that..." he stammered, turning his eyes toward the ceiling for a moment. How to explain... She needed to know. Everyone his beloved knew needed to know...
"Som'body tried ta DROWN ya??" Layla asked quickly, gawking in amazement. Who'd want to do something like THAT?? "So, you take care of her, then? All by yourself?"
For some reason, this seemed odd to her. Eriol didn't look that much older than Demare did now, and even Domonic was wary about letting him merely babysit the kids. Then again, the only one that even got along with him without a hitch was Manior, and the cat boy simply just loved the heck out of him. Maybe it was just the babies. Then again, Izumi hadn't met him yet...
She and Izumi watched the teenager struggle with Viviana for a moment, before he seemed to give up once the coffee had arrived. Layla couldn't help but giggle a little bit. Was that the way to a man's heart? ...An icky beverage?
The toddler, however, was more focused on the whale. Very gently, she placed her small hand on the daemon's head, carefully moving her hand down in a petting motion. Idly, she wondered what the stuff floating around him was, but her attention had quickly transfered from that to the juice being offered.
"Oos!" the girl cheered with a little clap, plopping her bottom onto the floor. She'd always had it in her mind that moving around when trying to consume things would be bad. "Joos peas!"
Relentless, however, was already perched on one of the small cups, his beak dipped happily into the naturally sugared drink being offered. Layla rocked on her heels again, shaking her head before moving some of her long hair away from her face, tucking it behind her ear.
"No, thank you," she declined with a smile. "DADDY knows I only drink water."
"DADDY is busy, sweetheart," Domonic sassed at her, knowing exactly where the child was going with her remark. His attention being focused on her for the moment, his speach seemed to return to normal. "If you don't mind, I think it would be best that I speak with Miss... DS alone for a moment."
"But, daddy, I--"
"Please, Layla?" he pleaded, looking right at her with troubled eyes. "Honey? Sweety, darling, sugar. You know very well that this isn't easy for me, and I think it would be best that this be discussed between her and me. Alone."
Izumi didn't have to think twice about the request, even though she didn't understand what was going on. The young girl had picked herself up, and was beginning to tug on Layla's long red dress.
"Up?" she asked before lifting her arms into the air, indicating that she wanted to be held.
The purple haired girl chewed on her lip softly before gathering Izumi up into both of her arms, JUST able to carry the child by herself. Grown-ups always had all the fun... but she knew how hard it was for Domonic to explain the situation, and felt it was her job to make things as easy as possible for him.
"Let's... go into the kitchen!" she chirped, starting to make her way there. "Eri, can you get the cookies and juice~? Oooo, do you guys like pie?? Maybe ice cream or pudding!"

DS chewed her lip. "Well, I'm sorry nonetheless."
"Yeah. Pretty psycho, huh?" Even in front of a child, Eriol couldn't help but puff out his chest bravely. "But they din't hurt me. I got out jus fine, y'see?" Of course, the occasional nightmare was enough to get to him, but the grin on his face showed no sign of worry. He was a warrior, he could handle things! Even freakish houses that tried to kill innocent teenagers!
But there were some things he couldn't handle alone, and taking care of a child was one of them. His grin melted a little, looking strangely lopsided. "Ehe, sorta. I've got lotsa help from Mom, an' the girls. An' Zvoni, he's this wind guy, showed up and actually LIKES to help." Eriol rolled his eyes. The guy was nutters, but helpful. "So I got help, but otherwise it's just us. I guess."
Shrugging, Eriol grabbed his mug again and drained it. He was surprisingly thirsty.
The juice was tempting, but Viviana slowly lowered herself to the floor, eventually sitting with a light thwump, before taking the cup she was offered. Walking was fun, but she was still getting the hang of it, and unwilling to take her hands off Outcry while standing. Of course, once she was sitting it was a whole other story. She accepted the cup from Eriol, holding it in both hands as she put it to her mouth and drank.
Outcry simply bobbed up a little higher, trying to put some distance between himself and Relentless. More interesting than the pesky bird was the taller girl, and he bumped into her, not entirely by accident.
"Quit that," Eriol scolded, handing another cup to Izumi absently, not even noticing that she wasn't on the floor anymore. His attention was distracted by Domonic's words. He wanted them to go into the kitchen? Well, it was his house and all, but Eriol wasn't sure he wanted to leave his mom alone with somebody who was practically a stranger. "Ma?"
DS nodded calmly. "Go ahead, sweets. We're just going to talk. Go easy on the sugar, especially for the little ones."
He would go, but he didn't have to like it. Nodding gruffly, he grabbed Viviana, cup and all, and started to follow Layla into what he assumed was the kitchen. Thankfully Outcry seemed to be following of his own accord; he didn't have the spare arms to hold two of them.
Satisfied that Eriol was doing as he was told, DS took her teacup in both hands and faced her host with a peaceful, bland expression. "I'm aware we haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet, and while you've met my crew, I'm afraid I don't know your name, sir."

Layla nearly fell over as she was bumped into, stumbling forward and nearly dropping Izumi. She kept on her feet, however, setting the little girl in one of the chairs before wandering over to the fridge to get another glass of juice and a cup of water for herself.
"Didja want more coffee stuffs, Eri?" she asked curiously, wondering if she needed to give the whale anything. "And... uh... what's he drink or eat? I feel bad not giving him anything."
Izumi looked around for a moment, not seeing her daemon anywhere. She figured he must have still been in the other room, and began to make a pouty face, not liking that she couldn't see him.
Relentless, on the other hand, couldn't care less about where he was. Despite the girl's silent cries for him to come, he stayed with his drink, sipping out of the cup happily.
Domonic cleared his throat a little bit, leaning back into his chair as he closed his eyes for a moment. Just get it all out... Easier said than done.
"Y-yes... forgive me..." he apologized, opening his eyes once more. He struggled, but he managed to force himself to be calm, at least for the time being. "My name is Domonic... I was Neko's fiance. I believe you met Manior a while ago... He would be our son."
He paused for a moment, taking in a deep breath and exhaling it slowly. "Neko... died... about six months ago. Demare was kidnapped, and she was killed while we were trying to save him."

Coffee was tempting, but the last time he'd had too much in one day he'd been up all night, bloodshot eyes, shaking hands, and all. And while that wasn't so bad in itself, getting chewed out by his mother over something like caffeine was not an experience Eriol wished to repeat. "Maybe just some water for now. And uh, Outcry doesn' eat much unless you've got seafood. Loves shrimp. And oranges, but I don' get that one."
As soon as Eriol put her down- on the kitchen counter of all places- Viviana held her cup away from her body. A few drops of juice had splashed onto her dress, coloring the white fabric. Distressed, Vivi set the cup aside and patted her chest where the juice had splattered. It felt sort of sticky, and it looked wrong. Her face screwed up, entirely unhappy with the situation.
"It's nice to meet you, Domonic-san," DS interjected quietly. "I did have the pleasure of meeting your son, I can see the resemblance." The 'was' in the sentence went unheard, not even registering at first. Not until Domonic finished, and all of the color went out of her face. One hand went to her heart, the other to her mouth, and her eyes widened in apparent shock.
Neko... that sweet woman, one of the few friends she had left, the one she had wanted to talk to more, to get to know better... dead? And that poor man, who had to take care of a houseful of children, and still dealing with the loss of his fiance. That he could handle a visitor like herself at all was to be admired, and she would, if she could get over the shock. Dead. It was too awful to believe.
Words jumbled around in DS's mind as she tried to think of something, anything to say. "How?" No, Domonic had said that part. "Why?" That was a stupid question. Why did anybody die? Supposedly it was their time, was Neko-san's time, but whoever or whatever chose a person's time had to have it wrong here.
"I'm..." DS bowed her head. "I'm so sorry. I- I didn't know."
