Hello all. Well, as the title states, I want to know how to get that light, fading, impressionistic feel of the professional anime backgrounds. I had a couple pictures of rural Japan that I digitized and worked with in Photoshop, but even using mystical lighting I can get that same feeling! (Rurouni Kenshin's TV look is what I'm trying for) So, does anyone have any ideas? Thanks. Sincerely, Daitai Achira (who's feeling really stupid right now. sweatdrop )

*looking through http://members.tripod.com/himura_kenshin11/pirate26/ * Uuuh.. landscape painting classes? *-* Looks like just.. yeah, landscape painting. : P Maybe buy a book or two on it. Realistic lighting, atmospheric perspective.. yeah. Maybe look into impressionism too. (Like you said, kinna) BGs like that are just a whole other thing unto themselves, you know? D:

Like G-kun said, you should try landscape painting. As for drawing towns, buildings, etc. practice on perspective.

Well. There's a lazy way too.
It's photomanipulation. I think that if you add a couple of filters to the background and do a bit of smudging and blurring, you can make a cartoonish looking BG from a photo.
But I really don't recommend this way of doing a background. You'll learn a lot more of you just tackle it straight on. But this method of backgrounding is good if you're just doodling. :3
Edit: HAHAH. I just read the part that said you tried this. XD
Don't mind that top part. xP

Hey no prob. It's cool. I do think it's the lazy way anyway, but I wanted to see what was up. I suppose I can check to see if there's any classes in my area. As for perspective, I've done perspective art since I was four. (is havinga birthday tomorrow) so yeah. ^-^ Thanks guys!
