Actually, he's American. he just speaks with a British accent for some reason.

Charles is BOSTONIAN, people. If he were British, why would he be with an American M*A*S*H unit?

Sorry. Winchester fangirl part of me took over for a little bit.

Ugly John is Australian and he was with the 4077th. But he probably moved to America and joined the US Army.

But look how long the let Ugly John stay on the show! They tried to market themselves as All-American. Why do you think they had EVERY part of America covered? They had Hawkeye and Charles from New England, Radar and Klinger from The Midwest, Sidney from the East Coast (he said Philly more than once), Potter and Rizzo from the South, BJ from the West, and Kellye from Hawaii. What more can you ask for? The foreign accents didn't last long.

Potter would go under the Midwest as well. He is from Missouri, after all.
