haha, so i just began to start showing my own models, nothing special..its fun, i admit its a pain in the butt to make teeny bridles for stablemates, but i did it..I have but a cheap, unrealistic blonde doll with stiff joints, a big old wood barn (big enough to house a classic sized breyer model) its nice, its got two box stalls and a corral..i mean..nice for my poorhouse standards, i also have a wobbly little plastic stablemates barn, barely holding up. but it serves is purpose, for backrounds (i really would like my showing to have a backround other than my messy bedroom xp ) i have pictures i tore out of a calendar, "america the beautiful" i have a camera phone, which works well to hide the sloppy details, like white string and rubber band bridles, crappy plastic saddles, and two dogs of the barbie brand..but its working well for me, the pictures look good, i dont think i can post them here..theyre on my new, kick-a** camera phonme^.^ i used to cheap little dolls with no moving parts for the stablemates, they work well, however..

It sounds like you've got a decent starter setup. My first photo setup was a blue sheet, a lamp and a crappy cheapo 35 mm camera that didn't center the photos correctly. lol If you're looking to make some decent tack for trad or classic scale, try www.riorondo.com. They've got some nice tack kidts for those sizes. Unfortunately, nobody has come out with tack kits for stablemates that I'm aware of so, you'll have to keep plugging along with makeshift or learn how to build the stuff from making a larger scale kit. smile

You know what?

Those molded plastic saddles and bridles that come with the Stablemate horse and rider sets are actually pretty nice, all things considered. And they work well for photo showing.

I think an entire set costs about $9. The riders are very nice as well.

I do a similar thing with photos... Except I print them out at 200 to 300 ppi. If I had a calender you can bet I'd have already gutted it, however.

Also, to get the pictures off your phone without a firewire, enter your email address instead of a phone number while sending them in a text message. They'll go right to your inbox!

its working out for me really well, of course trying to get the strings to stay in the doll's hands is a pain, but thats where clear tape comes in! the dolls i have are crappy, you can see the screws in their backs, and their clothes have been painted on..they dont move very well either but i seem to have been making it work..my best props are probably the breyer horses and the barn, i wish i had diffrent barns, though-wouldent have anywhere to put them..the barns breyer sells are so expensive, the one i have is that big two-stall barn, it has box stalls so it works pretty well, i like the box stalls more

I agree that the riders and saddles are nice for photo showing and believe it or not, they work well in the live ring also. I've got quite a few tiny NANers with their molded plastic tack. lol The trick is to keep the stuff as mint as possible.

I bought a tackle box to keep all of my show equipment in when I was heavily showing (had a primo paying job at the time). It cost me about $20 and it works for every size tack with all of the compartments that are in it.

I tend to purchase my calendars for backgrounds at Dollar Tree or at the beginning of the year several places give away calendars. I got two this year that ought to make some awesome backgrounds. I've also been known to purchase them at the end of the year when places are selling them for pennies on the dollar just to get rid of them because they'll soon be useless for keeping dates. I mean, what the heck, huh? You're just going to tear the photos out and use them It doesn't need to be a current calendar. wink

i love the snow! for showing, that is..i take my models out often and set them up in my huge backyard..my backyard is PERFECT for showing..its big, has rocks, trees, hills, all sorts of stuff that makes good natural abckrounds..theres a stream down a grassy alley, backwoods, showing models in the snow makes them look like real horses, you dont even notice that the pony models are bigger than the wild mustang models, haha..i have misty and stormy and i love those two, theyre bigger than the horse models even thought theyre ponies, haha! but you cant really tell when im showing them

Another thing that's great for photo showing if you don't want to stand outside in the snow is that great spray snow that they sell around Christmas time. Make up your background and spray the snow all over the "base" of your set up and viola! instant snow scene in the warmth of your house. Just FYI, the reason why your pony models are larger than your horse models is because the pony models are traditional scale and the mustangs are classic scale. The next size down is little bit scale, then stablemate and then minis. smile

yeah, I know why the ponies are bigger, i had this massive brain fart and forgot why, lol..Yeah, I hadnt thought of that, we have some of that stuff but I think I'd rather go outside..the wal-mart by my house right now has disposable cameras for, like 4 bucks, instead of their usual price range of around 7 bucks:/ which makes me even more glad that I don't live in a place thats visited by tourists alot..nebraska is just not a tourist destination, which is a good thing..well..we have carhinge! lol and kool-aid was invented here, kool-aid rocks^.^

Hey, to me, a camera is a camera..As long as it can function properly enough to take a few pictures it's good. I enjoy my camera phone for the effects it has..I can zoom in, zoom out, and adjust the brightness! xd

I rather prefer using a digital camera. It lets me see the pic I have just taken and if I know its crap I can toss it immediately. It also allows me to crop easily for head shots and things like that. I always went through way too many rolls of film for with my old camera so, yeah, digital's the best in my opinion. smile

Yeah I enetually figured that out, then for christmas last year I got a really nice digital camera with the wire so sneding pictures to my computer is ffree, lol. The camera is so sharp it makes models in good lighting look like they're in a breyer catalog!
