So. This is the first time I've tried asking advice, and I hope I don't get too long-winded..
As you can probably tell from the title, I'm a night person. I get really tired during the day and very awake and lively at night time. And no, it isn't really something that I can easily try to change my schedule to to get up earlier, etc. Even when I manage to wake up earlier, I still get very awake at certain hours in the night.
So here's the problem. I feel very useless during the day, when I'm supposed to be awake (school) because I'm so tired and I don't feel like doing anything. I'm very slothful. One of my nicknames is even "Sleepie", because that's generally how I am most of the time.
My sister (technically half-sister) is a morning person, so she is the opposite of me, and she always gets a lot done during the day, which makes me feel even more useless and more of a bother. By the time I'm really awake and I actually feel like doing things, it's night time and I have to go to bed.
I've thought about just going to my classes, going to sleep right after them, then waking up at night time and staying up for my classes, etc. But that's out of the question. The people I care about are awake during the day/afternoon and asleep at night, so I would feel even more lonely then I do when I'm only staying up a few hours into the night.
It takes a great amount of willpower for me to go to bed on time, but I think the only choice I have is to try and adjust more to a "normal" schedule.
So, that's where I need help. I'm planning on getting some Nyquil to take for at least a few days to try and go to sleep earlier. But I'm trying to think of more ways to have more energy, better foods to eat, etc.
Food-wise, I generally eat really healthy. I should eat more, though. That's another thing. I've been underweight/thin my whole life, and I've wanted to gain more weight for years. I think it's partly due to my fast metabolism and genetics, but also partially due to my bad eating habits. I eat too slowly, and thus I get full very quickly so I don't eat enough. I'm a lazy-eater, just like everything else. I do tend to eat a lot more during night time, but that's kind of out of the question now.
Er.. I apologize for the rambling. sweatdrop Thank you for anyone has read this much. I guess I just wanted tips/advice on how to have more energy and go to sleep earlier and stay that way. Thank you very much. 3nodding
And I'm also sorry for sounding so over-dramatic about it. I'm sure there are a lot of night-time people that can deal with this more easily than me. It's just been kind of depressing me lately.

Sleep habits are exactly that: habits. People who consistently wake up early usually find themselves going to bed early. Likewise for people who wake up late usually going to bed late. Our lives are monitored by our own internal clock, and fortunately, you can retrain your body to accept a new schedule. If you're interested in being more active in the morning, I would suggest the following:
Set a regular bedtime, and stick to it. Say like 10pm at first, and then maybe progressively earlier. But once 10pm rolls around, you're in bed with the lights out. Sure, it might take you a while to go to sleep at first, but stick to it and you'll soon start retraining your sleep habits. If you have serious difficulty going to sleep that early, look into Tylenol PM (not Nyquil). Tylenol PM is the least habit-forming, which is good, and it doesn't contain all of the extra medications that Nyquil does. I would not get into the habit of taking one every night, as even non-habit forming drugs have a tendency to create dependency.
Second, have a regular time you wake up. Say you need to be at school by 7:30. Start waking up a couple hours beforehand. That will give you plenty of time to get ready and also accomplish something before you leave. I find I'm most productive in the early morning, and it's a great feeling knowing that I did something useful before I leave the house. Coffee in the morning also helps, but it does form a habitual thing.
All in all, most teenagers are tired in the daytime. It's just the normal developmental process. As you grow older, you'll actually need less sleep and you'll find yourself having to wake up at 4:30 (like me) to get to work on time.

I used to be the same way when I was still in high school. What worked for me, other than being pregnant, was eating either dinner or a snack about an hour before going to bed. Than putting some of my favorite music on and either playing on my DS or reading a book. Just relaxing helps you quite a bit. And eating about an hour before bed helps too. You'll be surprised how a full tummy can help.
You could also take an hour or two nap when you get home. The first year or so of HS I did that. And it helped out alot. I would take an hour or 2 after school, hang out with the people I care about during the day and at around 9 or 10(usually 10) I would go to sleep and wake up at around 4 or so in the morning and do my homework than.

I'm a total night owl; I go to bed at 2 on most nights, and usually have to wake up by 7 or 8. I survive by taking naps during the day, and doing my homework in the evenings because I am most productive at that time. When I was in high school I just forced myself to go to bed early and get up early until my body got used to it.

Thank you for all of the advice, everyone. heart
I got some Tylenol PM now, and I'm going to try and go to bed at midnight every night. That works for me, since my girlfriend goes to bed right before that, so it will give me more of a reason to go to bed after her. Plus my classes don't start until 9:00, and I only need to get up at 8:00.
We'll see how that goes. xp
I've thought about just going to bed when I went to and taking a nap after classes too.. I fall asleep really, really easily after my classes. But that way, I won't be too awake during the classes. DX
And I need to get more breakfast foods for my dorm. 3nodding I like the idea of eating before bed, since it would help me gain weight too. I do a lot of my eating at night. xd
