*sigh*

I've found that many pro-lifers are not the die hard and clinic-bombing, but simply don't like the idea. That's fine with me. I have a problem with other peoples morals dictating my life but the fact is that's not how the majority of the pro-life argument thinks, they are just the most vocal members. In almost everyting the most die-hard are the most visible.

Anyone watch Star Trek Enterprise? The actress for Captain Janeway, Kate Mulgrew, said that abortion "didn't compute with my philosophy" but said nothing about keeping all women from it. The vast majority of pro-lifers are like her.

But why am I suddenly being treated like I've personally violated a woman's right simply by suggesting that we need to work together, and made an appeal for people to find common ground? This I don't understand. I am not an enemy, but I can see this issue being divided sharply and I don't like where it will probably end up if this continues.

Let's get this straight: I am a woman. I am for a woman's right to have an abortion, I do not want to see it illegalized.

We already have something like that, the PCPLA.

It's essentially failed as most of us no longer talk.

Sorry to say this, but face it, it's pretty apparent neither side wants a common ground reached.

It failed because any attempt at discussing the issue was either completely stifled or met with a bunch of "Don't do this guys! Let's just be nice and hang out!" Which is NOT why the damn thing existed.

I think part of the failure came from the fact that, when it was created, the members were flat out told that they weren't capable of reasonal discussion and thus debate was forbidden. And, as with most things, if you keep saying something to someone, eventually they'll believe you.

Dude, we lifted that restriction months and months ago. You can't blame that as the reason. We were fine for a good long while after that point. It's just died down because neither side really wants to reach common ground. The people who were involved were just going back into their respective guilds and bitching anyway.

The Alliance still got its start with a bunch "No, you can't do that" stuff. And as I said, even after the restriction was lifted, we still had several people who through a fit every time an actual conversation/debate would start up. And on top of that, we had individuals who refused to even get involved with the conversations and there's just no way you can reach common ground with a one-sided discussion.

Just FYI I don't have a problem reading Trite-Elegy's words, but I have a LCD monitor that's pretty clear.

I was speaking as the partially-sighted minority who don't want to have to make all of their text huge and the page skewed just because someone's decided to go for the tiny print stare There is nothing wrong with my LCD flatscreen either.

I don't see abortion as a punishment. I see it as just an option.

On an off-topic note, why do you post in smaller print? It's not the nicest to try and read on here. I keep seeing people doing it and I don't understand why they bother.

IMO I think women should have more options.
not two dirastic life changing routes that may leave many unhappy.
there is no 'in the middle' decision and thats what bother me quite a lot.

Example;
I'm a high schooler with plans to go to college and end up one day with a masters.
but what if in between fulfilling that dream, I meet someone I fall in love with and end up with a surpise pregnancy.
Now sure I want a family in the future and everything so it might come hard to me to have to choose.

Do I drop out and have the kid (you'd have to take time off for giving birth and giving it up for adoption I would never just throw my kids away) or do I abort, and continue on with my education so that I can get a good high paying and stable job so I can fulfill my future families needs?

sure some women try to do both but 75% of the time it ends up in disater or takes way too long with way too many struggles and tears.
society has made it so you can't do both, and I just can't stand that.
It's either one option or the other, no in between.
So could you see how in that angle how it could be seen as a punishment?
I know it's an option, just to let you know.

Smaller print? Because it comes out looking neater and more organised, plus I've found from being on gaia in general (mostly in the GD) that if the type is smaller, the paragraph will be smaller and more people will be inclined to read it all instead of complaning "I DON'T WANT TO READ THAT MUCH!"

Usually I post at a 9 point but I start my threads off on a 10 point.
this right here is a 10 point. is it better then a 9? (which I used on the post you quoted)

Personally, the standard size (dunno the number) is better. When I spot small-typed paragraphs, I'm tempted to just ignore them, because trying to read them strains my eyes. Especially if they use pink or cyan or yellow. Then it's just 'Retinas . . . burning! Arrrrgh!' ^_^

Aaaaand back to topic . . .

Yeah, I can see what you meant by punishment. I think I was thinking too literally there. In my literally-thinking mind, a punishment has to be dished out by someone, but no one's really dishing out abortions in such a way . . . if that makes sense? I blame answering the post while I was half-asleep, hehe.

Yeah, society's view as to be changed. Maybe if they showed more of the women's side of the story - tried to explain the reasons why women abort - that could help?
