Ah, naiveté. The cub smiled, a simple smile, as he watched the butterfly float through the air. His tail flicked happily and he lifted a feathered paw to carefully bat at it. The butterfly was too far up for him to catch, but that was okay - the gentle cub did not want to hurt it, only play.
Camulos was the eldest son of Hodari'roho, who was, in every way, his polar opposite. She was cruel and savage whereas he was quiet and loving. Unfortunately for him, he was also rather simpleminded and wanted only to please. His mother used this to her advantage and so, unbeknownst to him, he was being manipulated to do her bidding.
But right now he was not on any of her little missions, and so he was free to do whatever he wanted. The black cub chose to spend this time basking under the warm sun, taking pleasure in the simple things in life, like a colourful butterfly flitting around above him. His scarlet eyes twinkled and he smiled, rising up on his hind legs to bat at it some more.
"Hi there," he purred, giggling.

Mati yawned, small teeth glittering bright in the early afternoon sun. His steps were slightly weary and he wandered aimlessly, uncaring where his large paws led him.
As long as it wasn't into a hole, or tripping over a rock, or stumbling through a pricker bush. This seemed wont to happen lately, much to the growing pup's bewilderment. He'd always been able to move quietly, stealthily. Mati had grown accustomed to his feet, but sometimes...
Well, they seemed to have mind of their own, and there was no controlling them.
Such a time was now. Without realizing it the pup had wandered into the edge of a small ravine - what must be a flash flood area when rain actually fell on the distant mountains. For now it was dry and rocky - perfect for overly large and clumsy feet to find a likely obstacle.
With a faint yip (one more of resigned annoyance than startlement) Mati tumbled head over heals down the short, steep enbankment. His tumble wasn't uncontrolled however (he'd had enough practice) and he managed to land with more than a few bits of his dignity in tact.
The ghostly pup huffed a sigh and gathered himself up. A sudden change in the wind, however, froze him to the spot. His blue eyes narrowed on the small black cub who sat bating playfully near him.
It looked like that one thing he'd met once before. Leb-oye-aaa. But you could never be too careful.
"What are you?"

As the wild dog came tumbling down next to him, Cam jerked backwards, his eyes wide with surprise. Indeed, it was one of the strangest creatures he'd ever seen! His ears were too big, muzzle too long, and his tail was to fluffy... not to mention those big paws! Then again, Cam had yet to grow into his paws, but... so odd!
"I'm a lion!" he said with a silly smile, tilting his head slightly. What kind of creature didn't know what a lion was? His mother always said that lions were the strongest and smartest creatures in Africa! "What are you? I like your fur! You look kind of like my brother, except he's blue and white, not gray and white. Plus he's smaller, like me, and he's... well.. a lion, and you're not!"

"A... lie on?" Wasn't that... Yes! Like her!
"Like Leboya!" Mati lept to his feet and shook himself all over, sending dust billowing up. Realizing his reference might not be understood, the pup approached the lion cub and plopped down next to him to explain.
"I met a... lie on once. She was really big and pretty!" He eyed the small cub. "You don't look like her. But you look like my sister, 'cept she's got blue on her."
The pup thumped his plumy tail on the ground. "Oh! I'm a wild dog." He gazed around at the baren southlands around him, burnt brown under the heat of the sun. He let out a contented sigh, pleased with the beauty that surrounded him.
"My Mama and my family rule here, you know." He grinned.

(Ahahaha, man, Cam has such a big mouth that Roho is sooo gonna hear about that. xD Hilarious. Just what she needs, is to be riled up even more. 8D!)
"A wild dog?" Cam's eyes grew wide. "I've never heard of a wild dog before. Do they look like you? With big ears and fluffy tails?" He had no intention of being rude, of course, not realizing that 'big ears' could be taken as an insult by some. He thought they were rather interesting! "I've only ever met other lions. I have two brothers and three sisters!" He smiled. "And my mom raises us."
He tilted his head when Mati said that his family rules the Southlands. "Really? 'cause my mommy says she's the queen of this land! She wants to make the lions strong again. She says that lions are getting weak." He frowned for a moment before brightening. "I'm her helper! She told me that I'm helping our species get better." He puffed out his chest proudly.
"I'm Camulos," he added, grinning. "But you can call me Cam! Camulos is all big and strong sounding and I'm... well, not." He giggled. "What's your name?"

((XDDD! Mati might mention it in passing, if the subject of lions or what he'd been doing came up. XD ))
"Yep, a wild dog." Mat grinned at the mention of big ears and fluffy tails. It was true, he wouldn't lie. But his big ears had warned him of more than one approaching creature, so he wouldn't complain. "... well, my Mama is really pretty, she doesn't look like she had big ears. And her tail is really long and nice to chase."
The pup tilted his head. "Wow! I have four sisters and one brother. Although I don't really see them that much, except for Keil. Oh! And my pack raises us, and Mama is the leader!"
Which brought him to what might have been a sore subject if he hadn't already been so taken by the lions he'd met. "Your Mama rules too? Wow! Maybe they know each other. Or maybe your Mama just rules lions, and my Mama rules my kind."
Of course, that might get a little confusing after a while...
"I don't want to rule." Mati shrugged a little. "I just want to protect my family." He smiled and wagged his tail more. He was glad he wasn't the heir.
"Oh! I'm Matima, but you can call me Mati." He dipped his head. "It's nice to meet you, Cam!"

"Maybe!" Cam said at Mati's suggestion of them each ruling their own species. After all, that sounded logical enough! "Wow, four sisters. I don't really play with any of my brothers or sisters, except Kaihdin sometimes. All the others are kind of... mean. Especially Ibilisi. She's always trying to bite my ears off!" He lowered his head and let out a little whimper. "But Kaihdin is nice to me."
At the mention of ruling, Cam nodded in agreement. "I don't want to rule, either. I don't like making others do things, and you have to be able to do that to be a good leader, I think. Kaihdin is what mommy calls the 'heir', but she told me she doesn't want to lead, either. But wait!" Cam's eyes grew wide. "That's a secret, so don't tell anyone, please! Kaihdin is my only nice sister, and I don't want her to be mad at me." He smiled sheepishly. "I know that's not nice, but my brothers and sisters... well..." he sighed. "I just try to stay away from them, mostly."
"But have you ever heard of the Pridelands?" He brightened slightly. "Mommy sends me there for missions and it's very nice. She doesn't like them, but I don't know why. They're all nice and kind and stuff."

((*lied* He has two brothers... XD! ))
"Pridelands?" Mati shook his head. It sounded... special. Magnificent! Mama would have to think of a great name like that for their lands! A small voice wondered whether it might not be safer to have a normal name, like the Southlands, or even a dismal name like the Wastelands. After all, who would want to live there?
But the thought was a fleeting one.
"That's sad! I love all my sisters, and my brothers." The pup wagged his tail furiously in memory. "We always play together! Sometimes we sneak off and Mama gets real mad..."
Speaking of sneaking off... Mati's grin became slightly ashamed.
"So you've been there! To the Pridelands?" The pup's blue eyes grew round. "Do you think you could take me there?"

Cam's eyes brightened. "I could take you there, yeah!" he said happily. "It would be nice to have a friend with me. Mama sends me there on missions a lot. I think there's a lion there that she doesn't like, 'cause she makes me tell her all about him. But that's okay, because she gets happy when I come back and tell her stuff."
He bounced around, excited about the idea. "Yeah, yeah! You should ask your mama if you can come with me sometime. It'd be tons of fun."
The cub eyed Mati's tail, tilting his head. "Why does it do that? Y'know, wiggle around like a snake?" Suddenly he giggled. "It looks funny! I don't think mine does that, does it?" He craned his neck to look at his rump, noticing that his tail twitched at the tip. "Welllll... not as much as yours!"
