He's not trying to take over the world. o_o;; He's trying to save it. D:

No~. D: Why do so many people say that?! Hao wants to save the world by getting rid of humanity. It's bad, yes. But his intentions are good. He wants to save the earth from humans because they're really screwing it up. D: That's the same reason why they have the Shaman tournament. xD The only difference is that Hao wants to destroy the source completely. Remember, Ren thought just like that in the beginning of the anime. ^^;; He changed a lot, though.
