I think I'm going to drop out of the 9/10th grade and get my GED.

I'm 17. I'm stupid, so bear with me.

Why is this art related? Well, I want to do something with my life, and being an artist is one of my choices, as well as becoming a programmer (I'm really loving Python right now), writer, and/or a guitarist.

So, could finishing high school via GED now and going straight to college is a good idea, or should I just grit my teeth and finish those 4 years of high school completely?

Besides high school, I've also been dual enrolled in college, which is like, you're in high school, but you're allowed to take college classes, which is 20 dollars half a year or something. I've taken Art History and I got a C. I've taken Drawing I and got an A, even though I missed this one project. Failed a certain math class twice (couldn't really focus on the math homework), and I've gotten a D in this Old Testament class and English. sweatdrop

What are your reasons for wanting to drop out?

Even if only for scholarship reasons, I strongly reccommend sticking it out. I especially suggest you take your SATs.

I feel like I should get a job soon, leave out of the house when I'm 18-19. I don't feel comfortable with the idea of my parents having to deal with me if high school is going to take longer than 3 years.
Also, a lot of colleges don't really care too much if you have a GED or a regular high school diploma. They're accepting both.

Though, now that you've mention the SATs, maybe I should at least stay a few months longer, but still.

I really, really don't suggest dropping out of highschool for those reasons. The people that I have known who try and get their GED usually fall short because they don't have the structure of a school environment that they had most of their life. And if you want 2 get a job there are summer/parttime jobs and your senior year most schools offer a class that gets you off early so you can work.
I really think that highschool is a necessary for some1 to do well in college for most people and that getting a GED doesn't give u all the things that highschool does. sweatdrop

Still G.I.Z.

Yeah, I agree with everyone else. It kind of sucks, but you might as well stick it out. Even if colleges accept GEDs and all that, I think that having a high school diploma will be more important to most places. At least it was at all the colleges I applied to. I'm definitely not saying that people with GEDs don't do well or go to college, but everyone I've known who's dropped out of high school hasn't actually done anything with their life. If you do decide to drop out, I would suggest having some kind of plan or an idea of what you're going to do and making sure you stick to it.

PYTHON BAD

If you want to be a programmer learn: PHP, Perl, C++, vC++, and/or flash Actionscript.

More on-topic: I'd recommend that you do the highschool thing and here is why: You don't seem to have a clear idea of what you want to be doing. Jumping in to college too soon could end up being a mistake, and a huge waste of time and money.

I'd suggest that you use your highschool years really getting to know yourself so that you can make the best college decision possible for you.

School is so much better because someone is always behind you, telling you to do stuff and get out of bed and hand in homework on time.

On the other hand, one of my best friends got totally fed up with school and knew she wanted to be a nurse, so she did a college "access to nursing" course and is now very happily working her way through her second year Nursing course at Uni.

It all depends on yourself and whether you are a motivated or lazy person.

p.s- Old Testament Class?? Whoa.

Yeah. Old Testament was actually kind of fun sometimes. The teacher was nice, and we learned a bunch about the Bible.

Sorry, just because I mentioned that I really love python doesn't mean I'm going to completely ignore other langauges. I'm starting to get into C++, Java and Lua and I'm also planning to work with PHP and Perl really soon.
