I think the type of theatre I would love to work in is performing for kids and inspiring them they was I was when I was only 6 years old. I would prefer either just acting with voice or attend a Circus school that I found in Canada and perform that way, that sounds like so much fun. My parents thought the idea was awesome too.

Children's Theatre is my FAVORITE time of the year!
My college has a children's theatre show every year in the spring. The last show of the season for us. It's amazing. We perform all week long for school groups. It's all interactive, the actors run though the house in chase scenes and we send educational packets with coloring contests for the children to send back to us and we have a song that we teach them and they can sing and dance along with us! Then after the show they get to meet the characters and we wave goodbye to the buses as the drive off. By the end of the show we usually perform to over 3,000 kids total.
When I was little, my mother use to always take me to children’s theatre shows. In fact, when I was in 2nd grade, I went to “The Red Shoes” at the college I now go to. Last year, we did the show again and everyone was just amazed with me that I had seen it when I was little then 12 years later, I was performing in it. At first, I didn’t think I was going to like it because I hate little children. Yes, that’s right, I hate children and I do children’s theatre. But after my freshmen year of NOT doing the show and I had to SEAT the little ankle biters and I actually have more interaction with them off stage then on… being in the show was the thing for me.
This year we are going "The Emperor’s New Clothes." I want to be which ever character leads the warm-up this year. That the one that gets to be the first one to talk to the kids and sing along with them. It's also usually the best costumes of the season which is great for me since I'm a costume freak.

black_electric_raven718 That is so kewl,a nd a bit ironic since you dont like kids. I like them when their not being disobedient, otherwise I love them. Exactly. I have no problem with kids that are well behaved. I love well behaved kids. I have known my one directors kids since they were both babies and they are both SO well behaved that I don't mind them. I love them in fact. Then you have my cousins wild Indians. The kids that don't know the meaning of the phrase, "No, don't do that." I can't STAND little kids like that, which is the majority of the kids that we get at the shows usually. The year I had to seat them, I got so much snotty attitude from those little bastards. Then there is the occasionally gem in the audience that make it worth it. The ones that want a hug after the show or the ones that really get into the show. I was the grandmother in Red Shoes last year and I was colorblind, so I thought that the shoes were brown and this one little girl yells out "No! They're red shoes! They're EVIL!" and my heart just melted. Plus I finally got to say my response that I had worked out for if that happened, "RED shoes? Don't silly boys and girls, these are BROWN shoes. And a very nice shade of brown too!"

I also don't like children too much, but I just finished with the children's show that my University puts on every year. We did "Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman" and it was amazing! I was fortunate enough to be cast as Ichabod (people knew me by sight before a word was said, which is probably what the director wanted). It was so cool and the kids loved it! I'm excited for next year, since the director hinted at doing a Chinese version of Cinderella with completely traditional costuming. My favorite thing that happened was when we were performing for a group of kindergartners the final scene played out and the narrator went out to close. The narrator said "Nobody knows what happened to Ichabod Crane to this very day..." and all of the kids screamed "He died!"

We do children's theatre at my school. How we do it is we all think of ideas and vote on it. From there we choose our idea and improv the whole show and write a script from it. This year we came up with Candy Land.....and we're booked 6 days straight...performing for all the elementary schools in the county...no pressure whee exclaim

Voice acting sounds tough, but I would really love to do something like that in the future. And although I don't really like to work with kids, I agree that it would be nice to have a theatre for them so that maybe one will be inspired to persue theatre.

Wicked Elphie, I totally agree with you about the not liking children, but loving children's theatre. I think I'm just too much of a kid myself. rofl Well behaved kids are OK though, I concur. Bratty children....I just cannot handle.
At B_E_R, it's wonderful that your parents are supporting your career choice. My mother is "worried" about me. And my dad....well I haven't told him yet. As for your choice in circus schools, I assume you're talking about the one in Quebec? I'm not sure how pricey that one is, but I know there's one in San Fransisco which has a very good reputation and is pretty affordable. Cheaper than college anyway. mrgreen
