"Thank you," she said softly. How fortunate she was to have wandered to this place. It's always worth it.. those words echoed in her head.

Nzinga watched their surroundings intently as the scenery began to change. A path would down through a rock wall that appeared to surround a bowl shaped area. It certainly felt like a safe place. The rock wall felt like strong, impenatrable arms surrounding them in safety. She instantly began to feel better emotionally - her body, however, still longed for food and rest.

Nzinga was delighted to see the river; it was like reuniting with an old friend. She wandered over to it to see her reflection in the water and was suprised at how different she looked. Tired, and travel-weary..and now she could see how obvious her pregnany must be to everyone but herself. Giving in to a whim, she dipped a forepaw into the water and delighted at the cold. She was quite happy for a moment - and then her body began to remind her, strongly, of its needs. Her stomach hurt and she just felt sick through and through.

"The place where I can rest..is it near?"

Mteuli nodded, "You can rest where ever you like now that we're inside the wall. I'll be able to find you without any trouble." He peered at his daughter, who was busing trying to jump over a rather large rock. "Shula, dearest, why don't you stay here and keep miss Nzinga company?" he didn't like the idea of leaving her all alone. And Shula need not be there when he hunted.

Shula turned in a whirl, looking surprised, but soon her face broke into a wide smile. "Okay Daddy!" She loped over with a spring in her step and then flopped right beside the blue female, looking up at her with sky blue eyes. "We can have fun here!" she chimed happily.

Nzinga wasted no time. First, she released the blue flower she had been carying onto a patch of grass. Trying to remember to be gentle with her body, she then lowered herself to the ground and laid on her side, glad to be able to finally relax. She felt better at once. So tired...she laid her head down for one moment. And then...

Shula's energetic playfulness was cute, but Nzinga wasn't up to playing at the moment. "Sorry, sweetness," Nzinga said quietly, already feeling herself drift off. "I'm afraid I don't feel quite well enough to play right now."

Mteuli was off once he saw her settle down. He knew Shula would be a good girl. If she got extremely bored she could enterain herself. She had his care for others, always doing her best to please them if she could. Now he had a job to do. Get something for this weary lioness to eat, something that would nurture her and her unborn cubs.

"Awwww," Shula looked a little disappointed. "Ok pretty lady." She said with a nod. She got up, so as not to bother the big blue lioness and went over to the river's edge. Maybe she'd play with the fish or something. But she'd try to be quite. She didn't want to wake the nice lady.

Nzinga lay quietly, relaxing, thinking, and watching Shula play quietly in the water like a good girl. She was so well behaved, Nzinga thought, closing her eyes. She wondered what her own children would be like...she could hope for no better gentleness than Shula displayed. Would they be strong willed or obediant? Or both? So many possibilities swirled in her head, so many questions. When would they come, how many would there be? And then she thought of Vian.

What a mistake she had made - what a huge, colossal mistake. She was going to be a single mother. Vian would never find her now, assuming he ever planned to in the first place. But..but if he did find her. What could she possibly say? How would he feel about it - Would he want to be their father, or would he want nothing to do with them?...Or worst of all, what if he wanted to raise the children himself? She knew how unlikely that was; regardless, it caused an uprising of maternal instinct in her. She was carrying their children, and she would raise them.

She had now come to terms with the fact that they were not soul mates. If he came back at all, it would be on chance alone, and then the children were first priority. It did not make her sad, anymore, that there was no lasting future for herself and Vian. Perhaps friendship...but what they had, had been a fleeting thing. Perhaps she was not meant to have a mate.

Nzinga cracked open one eye as her thoughts began to calm down. "Maybe soon there will be another girl here for you to play with," she murmured, happy with the thought.

The bluejay lioness contented herself to watching the little girl play. It reminded her so much of her own childhood, her relationship with the river. The sound of the water was music to her ears. She wished she could communicate this relationship to Shula, how Nzinga herself once swam the rivers like a feline gator - but did not know the words to say. Instead, she let out a long sigh. Sleep was coming, she could feel it.
