Delphia was on a mission. She was searching for a gift. Unfortunately, she wasn't sure what it was she wanted to give. Thus she had started out early that morning and headed into the forest to the west. The mountains were looming nearer now, as the sun climbed slowly to it's zenith.
Hearing the tumbling, rushing sound of water, she left the trail she'd been meandering along and walked dociley towards the noise. As the sound grew louder, she saw that a celaring was ahead, brightly lit by the sun which was nearly overhead. She picked up her pace and trotted lightly into the warm sunshine.
The clearing was not as open and flat as she had expected. A large shelf of rock jutted from a hillside, and it was down this that the water cascaded. It wasn't terribly high, the top being only just above the reach of her muzzle when she came to the base of it. She squinted upwards curiously, then turned and plunged her muzzle into the small pool formed at the base of the short fall. The water was clear and pleasantly cool. It was too warm for the water to be truly cold, but it felt wonderful after her long walk.
The thought of perhaps finding a lovely river rock occured to her as she finished her drink, so she leaned way out over the moving surface and tried to peer pase her wavering reflection to see the bottom.

Two days ago, Silverwings had left his teepee to go on a nice, long hike. Salali, his Indian, had always been fond of letting her Soquili do as he wished when she didn't need him, and had let the stallion depart without a fuss. All she had requested was that he didn't fall off a cliff, and that he would return within a week. So, the male had left his comfortable home in search of nothing in particular, with no general direction to head. It had been decided on his first day that he would head for the mountains, for reasons unknown to him. Perhaps he would find a nice view out there, or be wrapped in complete solitude to think in. He could not know what his hike would bring, except that he would more than likely enjoy it.
Trotting steadily along a peaceful trail, the winged creature became aware of his thirst at the sound of trickling water. It is funny how those things work out, is it not? Smell some food, and suddenly you remember that you haven't eaten all day. Taking off from the well trodden path, he pushed through some brush to come along a gentle current. It looked so delicious, he cantered towards the water, and then into it some to drink lavishly. Lifting a dripping muzzle, he shook his body and fatigued muscles, and then stretched out his legs. It felt good to just stand there, his pasterns in the tickling current, with little on the mind but the thought of a near by berry bush. His gaze swept across the area, landing suddenly and unexpectidley on a mare. The stallion blinked a few times, making sure she was not simpley an illusion, and then took a few paces foward. He thought better of it, however, and decided to call out to her, as opposed to possibley spooking. "Hello, there."

The laughter of the water down the face of the rock ledge was loud enough that she did not hear the stallion land in the water not far downstream. So it was that she nearly jumped out of her skin when addressed suddenly from nearby. A slight misstep, and she teetered on the edge of the pool of water.
For a breathless moment she wavered between falling in, or regaining her balance. But finally with a laugh, she gave in and let herself step down into the pool with a soft splash. "Ah well, that feels good anyway," she commented lightly, wading through water that touched her belly. It shallowed soon enough as she approached the brown mottled stallion, and it was only then that she noted he was one of the winged kind.
"Greetings, friend. I'm Delphia, pleased to meet you." She bobbed her head in a friendly manner, privately glad she hadn't had to dunk her head underwater. Dripping braids were not particularly presentable for meeting someone new. "Fine day for flying, if you are so inclined." A glance towards the sky took her kindly gaze from him for but a moment before she returned her eyes to him with a gentle smile. "I hope this day has found you well?"

The stallion took a few paces forward as the mare tipped towards the water, but relaxed with a smile as she merely spalshed into it. Her good natured response was refreshing; he had expected a cold look paired with a 'hmph'. After all, it was his fault she had ended up in the stream. Apparently, it was of little consiquence, and the matter was shrugged off. He dipped his head lightly, maw still dripping from his drink. "The pleasure's all mine, Delphia. I'm Silverwings." He stretched his wings a little, as if to consider a quick flight, but folded them back to him soon after. "Yes, I agree. Clear skies; what more could you need for flight? But that is not what I came out here to do, really. I want to hike this week." He took on a determined stance, as hiking was not something he usually did. If he ever said he was going off for one, it normally meant he was flying to some location way out in the wilderness, and would fly home when he felt like it. "It has. I stumbled along some rather delicious berries earlier. Has your day been fair?"
