I usually like to start with greetings and phrases, but pronounciation is always good too. ninja Really though, I like to start with common phrases.

I self-study German, I always have.
Besides this guild, here's what I mainly do to learn the wonderful language : - Do a search for DE-learning websites. I can give you some if you like. - Get a CD couse. They're pretty cheap and I have one that's pretty effective and explains well. - Listen to DE music and get the lyrics. I learn a lot from music. Maybe translate some once you know enough. - Watch DE TV if you have access to the channels. - Go to a DE forum of something interesting to you (I go to a Soul Calibur one).
And I was going to go to Berlin, all was booked, but a week before I was going to travel there, a family crisis came up and I couldn't go to Berlin crying . I've been waiting 4 years to go to Germany! Conspiracy.

For starters, Guten Tag is two words...
Hmm... Goethe... Rilke... Whoever. Go find a book of German poetry, your native language (or one you're fluent in) on one side, German on the other. Goethe is probably the best tool I've got in terms of learning German.

You should probally start by learning basic things like my name is, I come from, things that could start a conversation. I'm taking a German School and that's what we always start with each year. Then you should probally move into some grammer like changing the endings of verbs that way you learn words and grammer at the same time. You can also try finding the names of common things you use each day and when you use them you can think or say the German name to remember. That or you can put sticky notes all over your house.
