thelovelyLIZ So I knew there were similarities but... wow. Apperently Lawrson really DIDN'T know how to read copy right rules. I think he did that on purpose, basing it on La Bohéme. I don't think he was trying to rip it off or anything.

Yeah, as there are like a million references saying that Rent is based off of La Boheme (Such as: an updated version of pucinis la boheme) and the fact that La Boheme is public domain now, it's technically not copyright infringement. If he'd claimed that the entire idea was his and he'd had no inspiration OR if Pucini and his direct (as in daughter and son) relations were still alive it would be considered illegal. But again, he gives Pucini props and it's public domain.

All of this is very true but I still love that they're so closely related.

I saw la boheme this past winter! it was really good, except we were way over on the side, and the subtitles were projected onto a wall and they were cut off, so that was kind of annoying, it really took away from the play. Musetta is so maureenish! it made me really happy. They have the Christmas Bells scene, and the La Vie boheme scene, and it's structured the same. Jonathan did a beautiful job converting it. I like rent a lot better, but La Boheme was really good.
