If Itachi hadn't done what he did, then I may like Sasuke more than I do now (though, his complex personality is one of the reasons I like him so much in the first place. x_x) and I'd still support SasuSaku if there was any Sasuke/Sakura interaction.
The Uchiha Massacre is a fundamental part of the Naruto plot and of Sasuke's character. Its absence would flush the plot down the tiolet and kill the Sasuke we know. I wouldn't like SasuSaku as much without all that angst. D:
But! Thinking about, I wouldn't mind Itachi and the rest of the Uchiha's around, for the possibility of a lot of BigBrotherTeasing!Itachi and Chibi!SasuSaku. And maybe some ItaSakuSasu conflict in later years. (( But where is Naruto during all this?
Just 'cause Itachi didn't make Sasuke's life a living hell by killing off everyone near and dear to him, Itachi's still got a reputation as an older brother to keep.
I mean, when ten-year-old little Sasuke brings home an equally cute and adorable ten-year-old little Sakura for dinner, someone has to crack out the baby pictures. >D!

No, I really wouldn't like it. Sasuke would be a completely different person, they wouldn't be compatible.
SasuSaku is bloody angst love.

Would Sakura had even liked Sasuke if Itachi had never killed his clan, & would Sasuke be the way he is. I am not SO sure on this one. Also Sasuke would maybe have a different attitude, and personality. I mean maybe I'd like SasuSaku, but it depends. I guess, well I'd still probably support them, but not as much. To me they'd probably kinda, well just be like any other Naruto couple I thought of, as I watched the show.
It wouldn't be the same at all. I am not even sure I'd like Sasuke as much, as I do now. [-GASP- I can't believe I just said that..] I personally like the way he acts, -nods- It just wouldn't be the same.

Seriously.. I'm not sure. That's all. It's hard to figure out how the two characters would've been if Itachi never left Konoha..
It's kind of like, what if Sasuke never left Konoha too? What would have it been like? Whatever the circumstances may be, if Itachi never left, SasuSaku might not have been as good as it is right now.. Or it could be better? I just don't know.

But the thing is that he probably wouldn't be paying as much attention to Sakura, even though she's on his team. To him, she'd probably be just another annoying rabid fangirl.
Of course I would still support the pairing, even if it wasn't canon, but maybe just if it was a crack pairing. Though it definately wouldn't be my OTP like it is now.

Also, if Itachi never killed the clan and Sasuke wasn't all angst-angst he'd still want to train hard to surpass his brother and win his father's attention, affection, and recognition. Mainly, they'd like him or his looks and that's possibly all. Sasuke would see Sakura as an item of affection like his mom, and would probably date her for a while, dump and leave her broken heart laying on the floor for someone to pick the pieces up one by one to fix it. Most likely, it would be her best friend Ino

It'll be bad.
Sakura will still be swooning over Sasuke.

and won't train under Tsunade.
Sasuke wouldn't have gone under Orochimaru.
And Naruto wouldn't have gone with Jariya.
Takes the point of the sad story out of Naruto.

It's angsty is what makes the couple so great.
Just no.
Amazing what the angst can do to an anime.
And the thought Itachi might take all the fangirls away from Sasuke.

Yeah, Itachi might have the fangirls. Or at least half of Sasuke's. Yet another reason for him to be jealous of his prodigy brother. XD

I would still support it because Sakura did like Sasuke before the massacre. She was, what, 5 or 6 when she started to like him? The clan was killed when he was 8. I think that was probably around the time Sakura discovered Sasuke liked girls with long hair... and then soon after that, she and Ino were rivals.
And then you have the relationship they have now.

Even if Itachi was there, I can see it happening. As weird as this sounds, we all know Itachi was a loving, doting older brother (at least until he killed everyone) and that he took care of Sasuke a lot, stood up for him, and protected him.... (which is why I can't see him just randomly killing the clan and think he did it for Sasuke, and maybe it has something to do with Uchiha Madara. Sasuke had a lot of influence in his life, like when he stopped fighting in the street because Sasuke yelled at him. He was shocked, and then he let go of it and apologized instead of going on with it.). I think Itachi would support it-- see her as a way to keep his little brother happy.
She'd be a steadfast beacon in Sasuke's life, just like he was. She'd support him not matter what. She would take care of him when he was hurt. She'd protect him in anyway possible.
