They were having a picnic.
Despite the weather turning colder by the second, dark grey clouds hanging heavily in the sky promising rain and a bitter wind, the young woman and her companion happily got to business setting up everything they would need for a nice day out. Various plates of food were placed strategically around to make sure the dark blue blanket didn't fly off. It was apparent that nothing would ruin this day for them, even a thunderstorm.
"This'll be fun. Look, I made jelly. What would you like first Nexi?"
Ruri sat cross-legged on the blanket, smiling crookedly at Nexi as he tried to seat himself down without loosing various body parts through the ground. He soon solved his problem by floating an inch or so above the blanket.
"Nothing at the moment." He replied after a time, his gaze sweeping around. There was a light blush on his cheeks, a sure sign of happiness. Long green hair hung across his shoulders, occasionally pushed back when it fell to close to his face. While his generally anatomy was correct, Nexi's colouring certainly didn't scream human. Not that it mattered. There wasn't anyone else around on a day like this. Or rather, nobody could see him anyway. Except Ruri and a few others.
The two began to chat happily about the day and what they would be doing tomorrow, both oblivious to the worsening weather.

With the soft tap-tap of sneakers, Precis came strolling up the path, looking more than a bit leary and gripping her riding crop with one hand.
She had finally decided to go for a stroll - though now that she was out here, she wondered what had possessed her to do so. Her stormy eyes were narrowed a little in nervousness, her eyes pointedly staring up ahead....
...At Jareth, who was flying in loops and delicate turns over the ground. It had taken him a bit of coaxing to get her to take a stroll where people might be...but the girl was such a terrible introvert.
He swooped just in front of her, then through her entirely.
She screamed.
"JARETH, DON'T DO THAT! You know I hate it!" After this was said, however, she clapped a hand over her mouth - the last thing she wanted to do was appear as if she were talking to no one.

"Look, Ruri, an owl!" Nexi suddenly burst out in the middle of Ruriska's explanation of ninjas.
"An owl, where?" She looked around, frowning at the thought of an owl being out on a day like this. It just didn't seem right.
"And it's blue!"
Now that definitely wasn't right.
Suddenly Nexi was gone. With a shrug Ruriska began to tuck into the chicken rolls she'd brought along, keeping a close eye on the path where Precis and the bird were now walking along. It could be one of those strange exotic owls from... South America? That seemed to satisfy Ruri, who sat with a small grin.
Attracted by the rather pretty owl and his (Nexi instantly knew that the bird was a he, how is anyones guess) human companion, Nexi appeared on the path ahead, a broad smile on his face. Although he was generally shy to start with, he was interested enough by this new couple to openly approach them.
"Hello there!"

Precis was already feeling a bit jumpy from Jareth's stunt - so a transparent person appearing on the path in front of her wasn't going to help.
"WHAT THE-?"
She jumped back a step, brandishing her riding crop in self-defense.
Jareth merely hooted in greeting, fluttering in graceful circles around them before hovering on eyelevel with Nexi.
He quirked his head in such a way that seemed to say 'she does this all the time.'

Ignoring the woman who was waving a riding crop at him threateningly, Nexi raised a delighted hand towards the bird, giggling. "You're so pretty." He cooed to Jareth, and then turned to wave at Ruri. "Look, Ruri look! Come over here!"
After taking another bite, Ruriska couldn't help but wander over when Nexi summoned her. The young woman sidled over, watching Precis with bright curiosity. "Hello." So this person could see Nexi as well? She must be a decent person then, and certainly a little troubled like all the rest. "Did you want to... um, have a picnic with us?"

Jareth twittered a little as his ego was stroked, lifting his beak regally.
...Precis, on the other hand, was trying to calm down again.
"H-h-hello...." Her voice was shaky - uncertain. She held the riding crop tight against her "Underground" sweatshirt, hands still shaking with nerves.
"...Um...I...thank you, but...do I know...you? I mean...either of you?" She flicked her eyes in the direction of Nexi, uncertain. There was another question that burned within her, but she didn't dare ask it yet.

"Oh, that's right." With a small shrug of her shoulders, Ruri stared back at the picnic blanket, wondering what the other woman was so nervous about. Perhaps she just wasn't that good with people. Ruri remembered being like that. But after a while of taking the pills and having Nexi's constant company, everything was a just mellow blur.
"That's fixed easy. My name is Ruriska. And this is Nexi. Now you can come have a picnic." The two who had just been introduced had matching happy grins.

...The matching grins sort of creeped Precis out.
"...Uh...I...suppose...." She thought for a moment, swallowed hard, then spoke again. "My name is...Precis...but most people call me 'Underground.'"
Biting her lip, she glanced to the owl.
"...And that...owl...over there is Jareth...." Her mind was racing. The...transparent person - a lot LIKE the way Jareth was - could see him. This girl could see the person, so...maybe....
"...Can you...see him?"
Meanwhile, Jareth fluttered around Nexi appraisingly, sharp, mismatched eyes calculating.
Actually, those mismatched eyes were only mismatched because one appeared damaged. Darker than the other.

"Precis... 'Underground'...? Hmm." Ruriska stared off into the distance for a second, her expression thoughtful. "What would you like me to call you?" She finally asked, having found herself unable to decide which one to use.
"Oh, yes. Of course I see him... oh wait, he's see through isn't he?" Scratching the back of her neck idly, Ruri watched the blue owl. "So... yes..." She chuckled. "I see him. He's like Nexi, or like Nexi was. Except Nexi wasn't an owl."
Nexi continued to watch Jareth, obviously delighted by the bird.
