Tsu grimmaced at Kai's behaviour. Finally when he found a good drinking buddy, his kid and his new found hormones or something were ruining the situation. This would be dealt with later. For the time being ignorance (especially drunken ignorance) is bliss.
"Well... in a way yes. Again, nothing that I biologically fathered per se, but still a sibling nonetheless. His name is Zavier and is the younger sibling to Kai. Hard to believe sometimes the way Kai acts." Tsu recalled. Although lately it seems that Zavier was getting moodier and moodier about everything going on with Kai. He'd have to check in on that.
Kai leaned forward in his makeshift cup. "It's a promise then! Let's seal the pact with a pinky swear!"
"It's a good thing you're a man of your word, squirt. Otherwise you'd have been owing a few pinkys by now."
"Not a squirt anymore!" Kai retorted indignantly. Although secretly, his chest puffed a little that Tsu had referred to him as man in a sentence.

Evie giggled. "Squirt," she repeated, clearly charmed by the nickname. "It's a cute little name!"
There was a heartbeat of silence and then Jack burst into snickers, covering his face with one hand. "Evie," he finally gasped, "that's not really somethin' a guy likes to... Aw, hell. Whatever." He shook his head, grinning, and picked up his pint again. So what if Kai was wandering towards puberty? Evie was still in short pants on the playground. He settled back in his chair. "Kids, huh?" he asked Tsu lazily.

Kai turned a slight shade of pink in embarassment and looked up miserably at Tsu. His pride had been hurt outright, and by a girl he was digging. "I'm not little." He said a little forcefully. More forcefully than what he meant, so he repeated, "Not little." a little more quietly before sinking down into his drink a little.
Tsu sighed and took another swig from his pint. "Tell me about it. Now I get the fun of bolstering his pride as I tell him to not think about the other kids in THAT way yet. So really... how do you manage?" There was a lot more weariness in his voice than the humour that had been there at first. Still it didn't hurt to hear other people's opinions about these matters.

"One day at a time, mostly," Jack answered as he sobered a bit at Tsu's tone. "Evie's a good gel, really. Sweet as candy, usually. Bruns doesn't need me t' do much for him so I get t' spend time with Evie." He toyed with his glass, absently tracing an arcane series of circles and lines into the frosty side side of it. "An' I usually work from home when I work so that's easy." He glanced up, brown eyes considering. "Hey, Tsu, mate. If you ever need someone t' watch Kai, y'know you can give me a call. You work outta the house, right?"
Watching Kai's face and mood fall, Evie bit her lower lip and stretched out her hand towards him. "Kai?" She wasn't quite sure what she had done wrong but it was obvious that she had said something to upset the other Drink. She went on her tip-toes and leaned farther over the edge of her cup, almost dangerously as she tried again to reach his shoulder. She just barely made it and her fingers rested there for a moment. "I'm sorry," she whispered. "I know you're big. I mean, I saw that right away when you got here. You're bigger than last time and braver, too, and you came up with that plan for Daddy to try for my cup so you're smart."

"As tempting as that sounds, I really don't want to put you out too much"] Tsu's lips pressed into a tight smile. This was a buddy he didn't want to let go of so quickly. "Well... if you do decide to take in Kai a couple of times, I'd be willing to do the favor for you if you need."
Downing another last bit of beer, he looked at the time. Still plenty of time to go before last call. With new found fervor, Tsu declared "ENOUGH WITH THIS WHINE FEST! WE CAME FOR BEER!" And proceeded to flag down a very disgruntled looking waitress to bring the remedy.
The kind words from Evie slowly started to stir Kai out of his funk. It WAS true that he provided a solution for helping Evie out. "S'okay" Kai finally mumbled as he climbed up from his pouting position. "It's not like you haven't grown either. Besides, we made a promise not to cry and upset your Jack or my Tsu."

"We did. That's right." Evie settled back into her cup more securely and smiled across at him. "And it'd make me sad, too," she added. "I don't like the thought of you being sad. Makes my head hurt."
Jack laughed, missing Evie's words in favor of Tsu's declaration. Then he was too busy giving the poor waitress his most charming grin to make up for the perfunctory summons. Then he was too busy knocking back pints in companionable chatter with his new friend and fellow sufferer.
If the kids had to get weird, at least he wasn't alone to witness it.
