Heres a question that I am most interested in speaking to among other fans. Who exactly is the bad guy in Phantom of the Opera and why is he/she a bad guy?

Unfortunately, most people would say that Erik is the bad guy. He threatens the managers, Punjabbs a few people, and steals a girl during an awesome preformance. Poor Erik. emo He's totally cool though! mrgreen
oh yeah, and it's phan's not fans. xp

Again, unfortantly Erik is portrayed as the bad guy in Phantom. He does kinda do a few bad things... sweatdrop I think that Erik is the circumstancial bad guy, he was turned into a bad guy/person because of his life, how he was treated. Does that make any sense?

Same here, I blame his mom for one, she treated him horribly!!! Then the gypsies for putting him on display like that and beating him. All he's ever really known is cruelty and even when Madame Giry saved him (going off the movie at the moment, of course with the book it's different, but even still he was treated with cruelty, and having someone want to kill you doesn't make for good circumstances. Even when Madame Giry saves him in the movie, he still doesn't know any real kindness, and because of all the cruelty he's been shown and dealt with he doesn't know how to be or do anything different really. That's my opinion anyways.

Yeah, the way he was treated definately turned him into the 'bad guy.' But that's what makes his character so dramatic and wonderful.

Christean= Leads Erik on, so he dose kill, threaten, people.
So its Christean. Deffinitly. Although Erik dose these things he dose then because of her. She is like the bad perosn behinde it all.

Christean= Leads Erik on, so he dose kill, threaten, people. So its Christean. Deffinitly. Although Erik dose these things he dose then because of her. She is like the bad perosn behinde it all. I completly agree! Although, to a point. While Christine does, undoubtably lead him on. He also tricks/decieves her. He gets her to believe that he is someone else, her angel of music/father, and she is constantly falling into the trap of believing that. So yes, they are both the "bad guys". Christine for leading Erik on, and Erik for killing people, threatening, and decieving Christine.

And yeah, i guess Erik decieves her and all. But not as bad! At least he didn't, in a way, cheat on her by going with another girl. Bah, my head hurts!
