Hah, very true, Luna... I had to put my foot down on my man using YIM, because he kept being flooded by 16-year-old webcam whores, and really, there's only so much one can trust a man's self-control. xp
I haven't had a problem with cyber creeps in years... mostly because I locked my IMs down to whoever was already on my buddy list. Back when I was really active in the furry fandom, there weren't many women in the fandom, so I got really sick of desperate guys IMing me. The worst one I got first came on to me and then, when I said I wasn't interested, asked me to beta a story of his. The thing was the worst piece of crap I'd ever read, with no plotline, but focusing entirely on his (he was the main character, of course) mental, physical and sexual prowess. I got only about three pages into it before I felt physically ill, deleted the story off my computer, and blocked him.

I'm glad somebody made a thread about this. I hate it when you are having a good conversation with somebody, then out of no where out comes something crude or perverse. It's like, great! I've just spend the past x amount of minutes talking to a person i'll end up having to block. Because you can't be nice to these people. They'll just keep talking to you and just keep trying. It's like they think if they talk to you long enough eventually you'll change your mind. At least when you get those that say something nasty within the first 3 sentences you don't have to be disappointed when they turn into creeps.

Very true Lehlie.
Actually one of the guys I rp with is into a lot of weird stuff. I just said "I don't mind rp'ing with you, but I don't do sex rp"
He's respected that ^_^ And he and his girlfriend are both darling people even if I don't agree with all of their um "extra curricular activities"
I think I've heard about the dungeons and dragons thing against a cyber person, something about "I put on my wizard's hat"
One time a guy wanted to be my "sub", well for about a good half hour I had him clean my virtual bathroom, take out my virtual trash, and feed my virtual goldfish...
Believe it or not he never caught on, so finally I sat him down for the long talk. I told him I didn't believe in "S & M" because I think having someone as your "slave" even in an rp strikes me as ethically wrong, seeing as slavery isn't glamorous. I also told him to build up his self respect... then I blocked him. I don't know why my trillian doesn't block like my old yahoo did.

Heh, funny you should mention that Antonia. My sister does almost exclusively S&M dom/sub roleplaying, although not on Gaia. I'd say she's one of those creeps, except that not only does she pretty much only play with other women, but the minute anyone can't separate the game from reality she stops playing with them. She absolutely hates it when people use roleplaying as an excuse to troll for real-life relationships.
And I don't do slave roleplaying, but I love playing servants. So I have had characters that swept virtual floors, cooked virtual food and polished virtual silver. xd

Servants are fine Seeress. There's a big difference between a servant and a slave. And people who rp slaves doesn't bother me as much as people who ooc think the concept of "slavery" is sexy.
But like you said there's the people who think it's a game and those who take it wayyyy too seriously. Most rp'ers when someone says "no thanks" say "ok" smile

*blinks a few times* I just thought of it... On a few message boars years ago, I was bothered by verry few people (at one point some people wanted to build a cult around me, but that's different). But here, on the time I would pop on and the time I'm on now I haven't been PM/IMed by one person (wull, I did get two random PMs, but one was an invite to a guild and another was just a compliment to my gallery and thanks for buying something from their shop on Gaia)... I would have fun with some of them though on the other boards... Every a/s/l I got, I either entered random jargon or would think up of the wierdest things and such. If I didn't confuse/wierd out/annoy them away, then I'd just ignor them. The only stalky people I've seen that don't give up are people who target a few artists and flame/troll/(enter whatever other net-word-things here) them. THOSE guys are the real problem.

lunashock Heh that makes me think of this myspace bulletin I reposted where people mess with cyber dorks. It's hilarious, but I don't think it's PG-13 otherwise I would post it. One guy does like a D&D one on this girl, it's great. The Cyber Ninja? I think I've seen that one. My Brother sent it to me after this one chick tried cybering with me. I was even part of the A.C.G.G.(Anti Cybering on Gaia Guild) at that time, I dunno what made her think I'd cooperate with her any confused

Hello, I like what's being talked about in this thread. I've had a few weird ones PM me or send a friends request. I delete the PM or request. I only had to ignore one person cause they were upset for not oking their Friend request. There are some nice guys out here in cyber land but because the ones that like cyber and other stuff have spoiled things. I agree that girls have to extra careful on line then guys. When you say or type "NO" and they don't seem understand bugs me too.
Girls can be just as bad, as I see alot of times "Come to my web cam" or other stuff posted on other web sites by girls. I can't be fair without saying there are faults in both genders.

I hate it as well when some people can't take NO as an answer, it's kinda sad at times. I have had to ignore people as well cause they keep on buggin me and stuff. Y'know, it isn't about just blocking them IMs or Ignoring User or deleting PMs. That's no skin off my nose.
It's just balls-out annoying that such stupid messages were sent in the first place, and that people actually like to screw with people online like that rolleyes I know the internet is a source of entertainment for many, but honestly, get outta my face! They make getting online feel a lot like walking into a room where everyone is -- to quote the almighty Clerks II -- "sex-nuts and retard strong." You just kinda wanna carry a can of e-pepperspray with you.

I have this problem with my MSN messenger. Since my Oblivion Guide was published, I get alot of people IM'img me. About half of them are fans or have a legitimate question, but the other half are just Cyber Sickos.
Had one IM me yesterday and say "Anser me or I'll report you for child abuse bit*h!!"
Seriously. These people have way to much time on their hands. My block list grows by leaps and bounds. rolleyes Always makes me think of Jay and Silent Bob strike back. Heh. At the end of the movie, they hop on a plane and go around the country beating the crap out of everyone who said anything bad about them online. rofl Starting to sound like a good idea!

Hehehe, has anyone ever seen one of those Dateline NBC specials where they set up a trap for cyber-*****?
What they do is go into these chat rooms where the creeps hang out and lure them to a house where they've got cameras set up. For believability purposes, they'll put some girl whose like 14 or 15 in the house and she'll act like she was the one talking to these guys. When the guys show up and go inside the girl will dissapear in to another room, usually saying she's going to change or something. While the guy is sitting around waiting for her to come back the reporter who works for Dateline comes out and starts talking to the guy like he's their good friend. That's usually when they realize they're busted and try to leave, only to get jumped by like 7 local police officers upon exit.
It may just be my cynical nature, but I can never get enough of those.
