Tenor sax is the bestest instrument ever! Eb saxes are overrated, anyways.

P.S. - I plan to go pro on it.

Eee~ I love my tenor. It's so mellow and, well, cool sounding. xD Not only that, but it tends to get awesome parts in concert and jazz band aswell. x) And yeah, the alto sounds whiny. As far as I've noticed, tenor players tend to get farther and play in more diverse music than the others. Same goes with bari. :3 I play a good ol' used jupiter, with a vandoren v3 (not sure, i'll check later) mouthpiece. The sax itself is pretty much a piece of junk, but the mp is lovely.

I've played both, and honestly, I like my tenor better. The alto just sound whiney.

(Alto: emo )

Whiney? One thing that isn't cool is "my sax is better than yours because it plays higher/lower, etc...". The tone can be controlled by the player and using a decent horn, some people just sound better on one vs. the other.

I'm just tired of that particular argument, not trying to start any flame wars. sweatdrop

I would have to say the Tenor is the way cooler saxophone. The tenor incorporates more dirt and grit, and yet one of the more soothing saxes. Does anyone here know all their blues scales? Im workin on it but I learn better playin in gig. I am headin'to jazz region in a couple of days so wish me luck. Play on, O jazz men (and women, since I would be mistaken not to say so)

Guys, this thread isn´t really about which saxophone is the best; that´s why we made threads for each type (except bass sax, I think...). Just talk about what you like about tenor here, and if you play it, and who your favorite tenor player is, and so on. Don´t start a big sax argument, though... sweatdrop

Nice. blaugh

I just got two tenor sax albums: "Page One" by Joe Henderson and "Saxophone Colossus" by Sonny Rollins. I seriously recommend them both. 3nodding

I love the tenor sax. Altos are a little too high pitched for me. Tenor can easily range from a deep, full sound, to the bright, edgy sound of the alto. I'm looking at buying the unlaquered Custom Z model by Yamaha.

PS - for orchestral band, tenor sax sucks to have to play - the parts are BORING!!!

I love playing Tenor because of the great sound of it's subtones. I love to rockout the subtones!
