As you may know, our dear friend Santa was recently the victim of a botched Zurg abduction attempt, resulting in his mind being zapped into a cow's body. The meek and loveable Zurg known as #2 has stepped up to help Santa deliver his presents, but Santa isn't so sure he wants any more "help" from the Zurg...
Whatever their differences may be, both Santas just want Xmas to be fun for everyone... but they need your help!
Interview with Santa and UFO 2:
Good evening Gaians, this is Cindy Donovinh of Gaia 9 Action News. Gaia 9 has conducted an exclusive interview with two prominent figures who will surely shape Gaia's future over the coming weeks: the mild-mannered Zurg pilot known as #2, and the famously jolly old elf we call Santa Claus.

New Monthly Collectibles!
We're really proud of this month's items, and we hope you like them as much as we do.
First, there's the glorious Elemental Hair! This item lets you choose between eight different hairstyles-- based on the elements of Fire, Water, Wind and Earth-- and you can change between them all you want without paying harsh fees at the salon. Magnificent!
Next, we have the delicately beautiful Winter Rose. You can wear it as a corsage, grip it in your teeth for a quick tango, wear it as a formal gown, or make a gigantic bouquet. And that's only half the stuff you can do with it. We'll leave the rest up to surprise (or you can go to this page and spoil it for yourself).

Tagging! What the heck is Tagging? It's awesome, that's what it is.
With the new Tagging System, you'll be able to search threads by keywords and find what you're looking for on the forums much more easily!
When you start a new thread, you can select up to five tags. Choose them wisely! Tags can be between 4 and 40 characters long, and can only use letters and numbers (no punctuation, spaces, or special characters; they must also contain at least one letter). For example, if you start a thread about being attacked by a giant sloth, you might add tags like "sloth," "injury," "mammals," "biting" and "clawing." You can also add tags to threads that were made before the tagging system was put up by editing the thread.
The addition of tags gives you a way to search for threads that interest you. It would be great if we could offer a full-text search option for our forums, but there are so many threads and posts that if even one person tried to search the database, the earth would literally burst into flames. Seriously. But, since that's not currently possible, being able to search tags is the next best thing.
To search for tags, click the "Community" link, and then the "Search" link.
The Tagging System also changes the way the "Interests" section of your profile works. Now, when you enter your interests, they'll have to follow the tag guidelines listed above. Remember to write your interests as one-word tags (like "guitars" or "books or "erosion") instead of full sentences (like "I am interested in the mating habits of eels"). Your old interests have been moved into the "hobbies/interests" section of the new system.

P.S.- It should go without saying, but it's against the rules to use dirty/offensive/non-PG13 tags in your threads, and will result in a warning. Tag with care!
Celebrate the holiday spirit the Gaia way: with funny hats!
We've added two new items to the GStore, both based on beloved virtual items from Gaia.

First is the Panda Hat, an item of great historical significance. The original Panda Hat was only the second Monthly Collectible item ever released on Gaia, all the way back in July of 2003! It's comfortable, adorable, and suitable for both girls and boys. Most hats look dumb on me, but I tried one on and it looked like I was born to wear it.
Second is the adorable Catscratch Hat. Apparently it was created by famous Gaian hat designer L0cke while he was in one of his frequent stupors, which should be reason enough for anyone to want one! I asked him what it was supposed to be, and he said it was representative of all the stuff cats do: leave messy paw-prints, scratch up your stuff, and sit on your head. From tragedy comes triumph: this hat looks great!

Quest system:
Unfortunately, we have to take the quest system down for a while so we can fix a few bugs. The huge number of members trying out the quest is putting a giant strain on some parts of the site, which is making some things run as slow as cold molasses!!!
We hope to get everything working again soon!
