I felt that it was necessary, at least for my own sake, to type out his whole family. It gave me some background to work with on who exactly abandoned him.
As for the age, he's in as good health as someone very healthy and in their early to mid eighties. Walks with a cane, but otherwise gets himself around. Like I said, one of the reasons he might be picked is so Moreau can test it out. I expect his serum could be altered somewhat to strenghten his body composition with the first change and then do all the really tough stuff later.
