The day had gone suprisingly well. He had managed, as he had promised to keep his temper and not to stir up too much trouble. Even Scim had behaved himself and not torn either Matador or Enoch into shreds of love.
Now as the frost began to set outside he tried his best to warm the bedroom. Pulling the drapes shut and stoking the fire. Suddenly he realised it may have been easier to live in a slightly more sheltered area.
Following Scim he slipped into the bed and pulled the covers up, slipping a long rectangular package from his pocket and placing it on Covet's pillow. It was wrapped simply in a pale blue scarf, something she could wear after, if she wished.

Covet finally put the last dish away, her head buzzing from the warmth and happiness that filled her from such a special evening. She was -quite- proud of Mecca for having done so well in Matador's presence. Sweeping her royal purple locks out of her eyes, she bent down to say good night to Meepo and give him his midnight snack, then turned off all the lights with a small yawn. The day had been a long one, but very well worth it. Climbing the stairs to the bedroom, she stepped inside and smiled at Mecca and Scim.
"Did you enjoy yourself?" she asked him softly as she prepared herself for bed. Pulling out the clip she had used to hold her hair back, she set it on her nightstand then stopped and blinked as she turned to the bed and noticed the package on her pillow. Looking up at Mecca she smiled and slowly crawled onto the bed and sat cross legged beside him, fluffing her wings a little before settling them against her back.
"What's this?" she asked him, a slightly playful smirk dancing across her lips as she reached out for the package, running her fingertips over the pale blue scarf wrapped around it.

Mecca shrugged asa he watched her run her fingers over the present and propped himself up on his elbow.
"I don't know." he said with a small smile. "I think somene must have left it there. You know, that man ... the creepy one who sneaks around in childrens bedrooms when they are asleep." he raised an eyebrow and nodded towards it. "Aren't you going to open it and see what you got?" he asked.
Inside the rectangular box were two elegant asian fans. He had seen them on a market stall and assumed that she could use them for dancing or decoration.

Covet laughed at his mention of Santa and gently pulled the scarf away. Admiring it for a moment, she folded it with a smile and looked up to at him as she opened the lid to the box in her hand. Her eyes lit up as she saw the two fans resting beside one another and she quickly leaned forward to kiss him briefly before pulling away again.
"Thank you Mecca!" she smiled happily as she pulled out first the lovely purple one and flipped it open and then the simply beautiful second one with the song birds. Running her fingers over the cool silk and the gorgeous patterns on each, she couldn't stop smiling. With a quick, delicate movement of her wrist and fingers, the purple fan went spinning in an elaborate twirl and she smiled proudly. "They're perfect," she smiled, looking back up at him as she flipped them both shut once more and laid them to rest back in their box. Leaning forward once more, she reached up and twisted some of his hair around her fingers.
"I have something for you too. Would you like to see what it is?" she asked, arching a brow slightly as she looked into his feline eyes.

Mecca watched her and smiled, he loved the way her eyes lit up when she was excited about something.
"I think I would like to see what you got me." he said with a smirk, reaching out to run his hand down her side. "I'm glad you like the fans, you can use them in your dances at Martiya."

"I can't wait to use them," she said smiling brightly, her earlier exhaustion long forgotten. She moved to place her beautiful gifts on her nightstand beside the ornamental hair clip and reached into a drawer. Pulling out a smallish medium box, she shut the door and handed the wrapped gift to him.
She had searched long and hard for something that she knew he would enjoy. With the help of Laurette, she had managed to track down some rather interesting characters and the result had ended in the purchase of two jewelled scarabs that the young shu had said were supposedly puzzles that held a secret of some sort, and from another shu, an odd crystal ball that seemed to swirl and glow as you looked into it.

Mecca opened the box and peered inside, catching sight of the scarabs and the crystal ball his eyes lit up. They were so perfect.
"I've been looking for these evrywhere." He said as he pulled them out and rested them on his hand so that he could inspect them. He studiedthem for a few moments before placing them back in the box. "And this, it's wonderful." He said, sitting up and holding it up so that the firelight caught the swirling colours.
"Thank you Covet. Thank you very much."

Covet had never seen such an expression cross his features before and it filled her with an enormous amount of warmth as she watched him pull the scarabs out to inspect them. When he replaced them and lifted the ball out of the box, she smiled brightly once more and watched the colors swirl for a moment before looking back at him. His thanks was genuine, no coldness, no possible hidden double meaning, just a plain and simple, heartfelt thanks.
"You're very welcome Mecca," she smiled softly, continuing to watch him for a moment before reaching into the box to lift the golden scarab out once more. "I'm so glad I was able to find these. It took several months because they kept changing hands," she smiled and traced her finger lightly over the cool, engraved metallic surface.

Mecca smiled again and reached out to touch the surface of the Scarab again too.
"Impressive." he smirked, trying to hide just how deeply touched he was. No one had ever gone out of their way to give him something so thoughtful.
He looked up at her and reached for her hand. He took the scarab, placed it gently in the box and brushed his fingers over her palm before placing a kiss in the middle.
"I'll have to thik of some way to make my present up to yours." He said looking up at her with a smirk. "Thank you, again."

Covet smiled and looked up at his compliment. She loved it when he gave them to her, if only because she knew they had to be earned. He wasn't one to hand them out so freely. She watched him remove the scarab from her palm and smiled more as he kissed her skin. Giving her head a small shake she smiled and moved closer to him, kneeling on her knees and lacing her fingers through his.
"I love them Me-chan. I've never seen such beautiful fans before. I truly wish I could only give you more for all the wonderful things you've given me," she smiled and leaned forward as she slipped her free hand into his hair.

Mecca smirked and looked up into her eyes.
"You don't have to give me anything." He said as he rested a hand on her waist. "I do not to things to get favours in return."
He breathed through his nose and ghosted his hand up to pull himclose to her.
"But I risk getting centimental so I shall stop."

Covet laughed and slipped her arms around his neck.
"We wouldn't want that, now would we," she smirked and teased his lips. "Merry Christmas Me-chan," she smiled as she watched the firelight dance across his features. Giving him one last kiss, she shifted to slip under the covers with him and curled up into his warmth.
