A Flamel, you say? Intriguing. But I looked it up online and I can't find out where the Flamel originates from. Like, what's its history? What was it used to symbolize?
And, yes, it is a salamander on Roy's gloves/Riza's back. Salamander's usually live around moist areas, but many fire-related legends evolved surrounding them. The connection probably originates from the tendency of many salamanders to dwell inside rotting logs. Anyhow, the legend is mainly that salamanders where born from flames, and many authors from da Vinci to Bradbury have made references to the ledgend. The name "salamander" itself originates from the Persian "sām" (meaning "fire") and andarūn (meaning "within").

Truth is, I can't really find it's origin either or what it truly means. sweatdrop But, I did search it on google-images and it came up. Then when I searched it in websites tons of things came up. I was kinda to lazy to read all the information on them though. sweatdrop (Everything I found was really really long...) Trust me, I will find out...when I have time though...
