Okay, so here's the deal. My first-choice college (Mills College in Oakland) has a pretty amazing music program. Seeing as I plan to major in music, getting into their Conservatory is kinda high on my priorities list. Auditions are on Monday, January 29, and last about half an hour. I've never done an audition before, so it's a little freaky, but I can deal.

However, to even qualify for one of their music scholarships, I have to perform three different peices, from three different time periods (well, two really, since modern/contemporary is required) and in at least two different languages.

So do any of you know any good solo peices that I could use? I'm a first soprano, and the top of my range currently is around high A or B (A2 and B2? I think; I'm bad at that particular system), but I can just as easily do something alto if need be. For modern/contemporary, I was personally leaning towards jazz, but beggars can't be choosers - anything you find, really, will help out SO MUCH.

Oh, yeah, a question:
1. What has been your experiences with auditions? Was there anything that really helped you out, either vocally or nerve-wise?

Il Mio Bel Foco? I've looked it over before funnily enough, but hadn't thought about it. Now I'll try to dig it back up, though! Two pieces down, one to go! rofl

Seriously, thank you. And the assurance is nice, too - I'm just really really nervous about this entire thing, and it's still a month away. Jeez, I'll be insufferable when it gets closer! sweatdrop But anyways, I'm rambling again. Thanks.

for the auditon thing. I had to audition to get into the show choir i am in. The danceing i had no truble in cuz i just practiced the dance about 15bajillion times. i attemtped to sight read music at home to help me with the sight reading test but it didnt help me because know one had taught me how to sight read before hand. and the singing part, I was soooo confused on what song i should sing. I narrowed my choices for three songs but then i couldnt choose. I wasnt that nervous but my future choir teacher kinda scared me. My suggestion just stay calm and do your best.

Thanks kiti. It sounds like your audition was really tough - I'm glad you got through it! And your advice is really good too.
