Kat walked slightly behind him. She knew he was upset, which made her even more upset. Why hadn't she just shut her mouth and just gone back in the dark? At least Ai would be happy now, he wouldn't look so sad. It ate at her heart to see him like that. Sure they had just met, they were friends, but she felt completely horrible. The cub inside her wanted to cry.
She wished she didn't have to go.
But what would she do if she stayed? Surely she couldn't follow him home, stay with his family until she met the queen, found a place of her own. She didn't even know if she would be welcomed here completely, she always doubted that in herself, that she would never be perfect to be anywhere and with anyone. She thought herself doomed to be alone. Behavior like this, leaving her friend behind, making him sad, she believed ensured she would be alone for the rest of her days.
Who would want to put up with her?
She held the tears in her eyes, she felt she was abandoning him, felt so bad she was doing so. But she was afraid truthfully, of being caught in teh dark, unable to find her spot in the brush she found. To be out in the open, vulnerable, alone and cold. She wondered if she would sleep decently tonight, if at all. Kat looked ahead, and saw the rocks they first met at, her ears fell back even more, her tail didn't sway, her head was forward, looking at the ground. She didn't want him to see her eyes shimmer with tears threatening to fall.
"I'm sorry Ai..."

He was doing his best to walk as slowly as he good, being the talented little juvenile he was.. however, 'as slow as possible', seemed faster then he would've liked. So happily would he have taken his new friend home with him (and probably found a nice place to hide her away too, being the master of Hide and Seek he was.. ).
When the rock came into view he stopped, hearing his companion's movement cease as well, since the grass had stopped moving, causing him to look back behind him to her, eyes narrowing in the growing darkness in an attempt to see her better. However, his attempts were failing, bringing him to wander closer and post himself by her leg, leaning against it.
".. It's okay... I think..." he replied, frowning. She needed to go, didn't she? It wasn't FAIR of him to keep her forever.
"Just promise you'll come back again so we can play and I can show you more next time......." he insisted, nudging his nose against her fur gently.

She heard him stop as well and held her breath quietly. Why did she do this to him? Make him so sad? Her mind raced with ideas of how to try and stay, but she knew, this night, that was impossible, which made her heart stop for a mere moment, then start again.
Kat felt him lean against her leg. He could move so well in the dimmed light. It was fading too fast it seemed, why couldn't she just plaster the sun upon the blue sky, and keep it there for a little while longer? "Yes, it'll be okay," she lowered herself to lay upon the grass and be somewhat level to him, resting her head on his back while he leaned against her
She smiled at his idea, pulled away and nodded, nuzzled his cheek, "Alright, I promise, I'll come back again, I promise," she repeated herself to try and make it seem more real, stay in her mind. Yes, she would come back. She stood and pulled from him, his little warm friendly energetic being.
Yes, she would come back.
Kat took a few steps away from him, this place, the rocks, she would remember here, right here, this would b where she would come back to. She offered him a smile, held the tears in a bit longer, and swished her tail, "I'll be back Ai, I promise, I'll come back to this spot, I swear..." she began to take a few steps, she knew she would miss him so much. It tore at her. She had to pulled her eyes from him adn begin to pad off, faster than she thought. The tears started to run from her eyes, travel down her cheek and shimmer in the remaining light from the sun.
Soon she would be back in her spot, nestled amongst the brush. Cold, and alone. But she would come back.
She would come back.

Ai remained, watching Kat as she left, holding himself as high as he could. Afterall... he wanted to be standing there in case she lookedback.. he didn't want her to think he was having a mental breakdown because she was leaving... and truely, it was strange to him... why did he care so much that she was leaving?
... But then again... all this friends seemed to stay.. nobody had ever LEFT before....
So he simply watched, whining a bit, though he was sure she could not hear it, waiting until he was unable to see any signs of the female... then, he turned and started on his own way.
