Kabichi padded around the watering hole warily, occasionally glancing in the direction of the Elephant Graveyard nerviously before curcling up by the water, lapping at it for a drink. She didn't want to be too far away from others too long. There were scary, big, icky fuzzy fangy things around the area, and she didn't really want to be somebody's snack.
Finally, she licked her chops, ears swivelling as she sniffed the air and looked around, hoping to sight something to eat before she fled back southward.

Safiya was running, running with no thought of where she was going - just trying to get away. She didn't dare look back, afraid to see the vicious hyena right on her tail. She didn't even feel safe when she saw the gray dirt beneath her feet give way to rich, brown dirt and yellow grass.
Not until she was a good distance away from the bones - nearing a watering hole - did she begin to slow down and realize she did not hear the footsteps of a chasing hyena. Her frantic heartbeat was the loudest sound in her ears and she was still afraid, seeing those maliciously grinning jaws snapping at her. The further she walked, however, the slower her heartbeat became.
She knew only one thing: she could never return to the graveyard after that..after she had run away from a fight like a coward.
Safi's hasty escape made her thirsty. She didn't know where she would go after this, but she might as well get a drink before starting off wandering.
As she approached the water, she spotted a small white cub. Despite her recent near-death experience, Safi was always friendly to strangers - especially cubs, who were cute and certainly didn't pose any threat. Besides, she was concerned. What if this little cub was lost? Being all alone near the graveyard was certainly not very safe.
Safi approached the cub cautiously, now knowing that some creatures became frightened of an adult lionness running over to them. "Hey there little one," she said with a friendly smile. "What are you doing over here all by yourself? The elephant graveyard is a dangerous place, especially for someone as little as you!" It was even a dangerous enough place for someone as big as Safiya.

Both black-lined ears pricked up at the cub jumped to her feet in suprise, then looked up at the lioness. For a second she was ready to bolt, but the lioness didn't LOOK ready to rip her head off...
Kabichi blinked.
"Gettin' a drink." Kabichi finally said. "Are you a Pridelander too?"
She looked up curiously. She was WHITE! White like her! Though she had yellow on her nose too. Curious! And there wasn't a spec of blue, purple, or green to be found on her.
Kabichi had yet to learn not all white lions looked like her.

A Pridelander? "No, I can't say I am," Safi said, looking a bit confused. She wished she was a Pridelander, though. They had such a good life, from what she had seen. So many families living together! It must be nice.
"Is that where you're from?" she asked the little girl. "Where are your mommy and daddy? Didn't they tell you not to come to the graveyard alone?"

"Yup! I'm from the Pridelands!...Kinda. I live there?" She blinked, ear flicking as she thought, then blinked again as Safiya asked about her parents. Both ears flattened against her head and she looked down.
"Mommy and Daddy aren't here anymore." She frowned. It was a bad memory she wanted to forget-- seeing her mother's body sprawled out on the Savannah, and her father collapsed on his side, not even moving, to her young eyes, not to mention her siblings....
The cub promptly began to cry. She missed her family, so very much.

Safiya's heart instantly went out to the poor thing as she started to cry. Her own cubhood was similiar - for all Safi knew, she was also an orphan. "You poor little dear!" Safi exclaimed. "Don't cry. It'll be okay." She gently patted the little girl's head with a forepaw. "I am an orphan, myself. Don't cry!" The little cub's tears made her want to cry, herself. What could she do to make her feel better..? Nothing could make up for a lost family.

Kabichi snuffled, looking up.
"Y...y....you are?" The cub tilted her head.

"Yes, I am. I've been alone this I was as small as you!" Safiya smiled at her. "It'll be okay. What's your name?"

Kabichi snuffled again, ears flattening.
"I hope so." She looked around, then at Safiya.
"Where did you come from?" Kabi smiled a wide cub-smile, tail switching.

Safiya swung her head back, facing the gray, imposing place she had called her home since cubhood. "I come from there. But I'm never going back." A chill went down her spine as she saw the flashing jaws in her mind's eye once again.
Turning back around to face the little cub, she put on a smile and said, "How bout we get you back to your home, where it's safer. This is no place for a little girl." Even though Safiya had come here as a little cub, lost and alone, herself... But this was it. She was leaving for good. "Say, what's your name?"

"My name's Kabichi!" She smiled at the bigger lioness, and began to dance about her paws, scurrying and running all about happily.
"Wanna play when we get home? And you can meet Legeti and-" Oh, she was full of talkativity now. The cub was happy. Someone like her! And she grew up in a scary place! This was great!

Safiya couldn't help the wide grin that spread across her face. After the dreary scenery of the graveyard, not to mention its much-more-dreary inhabitants, it was great to meet someone more in her spirits. Even if it was a cub. She was just so cute. Her youthful energy made Safi want to join her, and become a cub again. "My name is Safiya - you can call me Safi, if you want."
"Sure," she answered the bouncing little one. "We can do whatever you'd like. Lead the way." This day had really turned around for her, in a good way. Safi had never thought she would escape the graveyard.

"Yaaaaay Safi!" And Kabi bounced around Safiya's paws before running for the deeper areas of the Pridelands. She should take her to meet Mut and Danzi, oh yes, they'd like her. She didn't mean to get so wound up usually, but she was so excited to meet a lioness like her.
It was a light, if anything.

Safiya giggled at the little girl's antics, thinking just how much she acted like Safiya herself as a child. And how much Safiya would have loved to meet an older lioness like herself.
She smiled warmly at Kabi, and followed her towards the Pridelands. "Hey, wait up there, munchkin!" she called, laughing.
