why does moto and hon use the same kanji? i been wanting to ask my sensei at school but i keep forgetting do you know?

I think it's because... sweatdrop I'm not sure either
I only know 1 name with "hon" in it but I would assume it's because hon means book and moto is just... confused
Or maybe it's hon if it comes before another kanji and moto if it is the last.
Who knows sweatdrop good question though razz
