I always liked the Hanna-Barbera Tom & Jerry cartoons the best. The Chuck Jones renditions made Jerry seem, uh, weird.

Considering how their legacy has been mistreated by Ted Turner and Warner Bros. over the past two decades, I'm glad they're not here to see their work being butchered.

The MGM theatrical Tom and Jerry cartoons were their best work. Watching the new TV version makes me ill

Have they removed all the scenes depecting smoking from the cartoon shorts yet is that merely the next thing to be put on the chopping block? stare

Even though the cartoons are very popular with children they weren't created exclusively for kids. Funny, if they wanted to edit smoking out of Cassablanca I'm sure there would be an uproar but not many seem to care what happens to classic animated theatrical shorts.

I guess it doesn't bother me too much that Mammy two shoes isn't on TV anymore but I feel it would be nice to make the original material available on DVD uncut and unedited. Better yet if they think the cartoons contain stuff that kids these days shouldn't see then don't show it till after 10:00 or 11:00. I guess there's no money in that though.

...Wait I thought he was already dead. Or am I thinking of someone else?

His partner died a few years ago. That's who you must be thinking of.

Mm. Must be.

Still, we lost a pioneer. May he rest in peace.

I actually preferred the Chuck Jones' version Tom & Jerry, but then I've always had a thing for angular stylisation. Not dissing Barbera's work... hell, mention anyone else who's created as many iconic character as Joseph Barbera and William Hanna did. You can't, of course.

He's had a long fruitful life, and now he'll finally get some rest.

Yes, I believe he was 95 years old. That's quite a good run and he had long career too.

Not to say Chuck Jones wasn't talented but I've always been picky when it comes to Chuck Jones's work. I never liked the cynical bitter heel that Chuck's Daffy Duck was compaired to the crazed loon he was in older cartoons. I guess Daffys just bitter about Bugs Bunny supplanting his lead role at Warner Brothers. I like the road runner series very much though. A matter of personal taste really.

Maybe I'm weird but I actually kinda like the Gene Deitch Tom & Jerrys too. Just becuase they were so damn freaky. xd

Ha ha, I feel kind of bad because quite frankly I pretty much hate all of the cartoons those guys made back in the day.
