I just saw the Unquiet Dead on BBC America. Has there been anything connecting Gwen and Gwyneth? Other than the fact that their names are similar, they lived in the same place, and they were played by the same actress?

As far as I know, that's it. It does seem a bit weird though. I think in the last episode of Torchwood we might learn more about it.

One would think that there had to be some sort of connection, otherwise why would they have made the names almost identical? Surely the powers that be could tell that people would assume a connection, so they wouldn't have used those names if there wasn't one.

I'm certain there'll be a connection made eventually - RTD is BIG on those sort of connections. I heard recently that he's going to make a connection between the new Doctor companion Martha, and the character the actress played in Army of Ghosts (who got Cybered). He doesn't tend to overlook anything, does he? I suppose it's just a matter of time before Gweneth/Gwen is addressed.

The more connections the better, in my opinion. It wouldn't be a proper spinoff if they didn't make connections.

I totally thought that Gwen and Gwyneth were connected! I think that Gwyneth, when she lit the match, was sent in to the rift, and was spat out on modern day earth either as a baby, or was fully grown again with no memories, yet is very smart. This could be why she is so caring to things biggrin

I just found that out, just now! and I thought I was really cool for finding it out. But I'm not, you all new already. I'm rubbish and slow.
But there must be a connection. I really like the idea of her being the same person send forward in time. We'll just have to wait and see...

Yeh, we will have to just wait and see. I still believe it will turn up in the last episode.

OK, this is in DWM 378 (came out today), said by RTD himself when asked if there was a connection...
None at all. Maybe it's a Welsh thing, but those are completely different names to me. We're not about to reveal that she's a parallel-Gelth-ghost-from-the-Time-Rift, or something; just two names beginning with G. It could've been worse: I could have called her Gina. Or George.

That quote makes me laugh...reminds me of Romana almost being called Fred. Maybe they'll explore the connection in the books...or just leave it up to the plethora of fanfic writers out there.

It would of being good if there was a connection. And that Random Shoes thing, I thought there was a connection there. She was connected to the dead as was Gwyneth in Doctor who. But if not confused
