For my part, when I found out, I was surprised, but then when I thought about it more, it didn't seem so strange.
For one thing, it's FANfiction, and if you're a fan of Marching Band, then there's no reason why you couldn't call your Marching Band stories fanfiction. Especially when you feature members of your own band in it.
It also illustrates the vital difference between band and other types of recreation. Band is almost an alternate universe in itself. Can you say that about other sports?
