maybe its because its he think that the its his only link to the doctor...
the only person who can help him die...
the only person who knows what its like too live for so long...
(awww i feel sad for him, poor guy)
just wants a certain kind of doctor... lol

Well, he had it so that he knew when he could meet with the doctor. He had to meet with an incarnation of the Doctor that matches up with him (hence why he has the tenth doctor's hand, it wouldn't work if 9 or 1 had appeared in Cardiff 'cause of the difference in DNA)

Seriously, does anyone BOTHER to read the threads before they post? We already mentioned a few times that it was a doctor detector as was revealed over a year ago when series 1 of Torchwood finished.

Mystery solved.
if you haven't seen the last episode of doctor who yet this is a spoiler(below in white)
The hand is used as a means of duplicating the doctor and making a half human half doctor version of himself thanks to donna...it was all very dramatic. The doctor was regenerating and had to channel some his energy into the hand and thats how it happened
interesting eh?

Yep, it was really suprising with the use of the hand.
