If you go to my topic "Cloud Forest" in Animal Issues and Extended Discussion, you can learn a bit more about the animals. But while researching the subject, it was said that 20 of 50 species of amphibians are extinct. Also the beautiful quetzal bird is now endangered. All because of CLIMATE CHANGE!

Well, planet conservation is a great thing, but some of this stuff is a little silly.

Like not flushing until people have peed about 7 times...that just doesn't work, particularly with people prone to bladder infections or related problems. Attempting to shower by dumping water from a bucket over myself would just end up with me cold from the air exposure, leading to me getting sick (yes, no matter what they used to say, new studies show that people who get chills get sick more easily and often).

As for transportation, studies have shown that public transportation is not as energy-efficient as it used to be. Over 40% of people used it back in the 1960s, but only about 5% are using it nowadays, according to a local newspaper last week. I, myself, usually walk when going to lunch (my typical spot is just across the street. My car is only about 20 feet from it), walking down the street either where I work or where I live is unsafe, as sidewalks are not exactly a common thing. I don't know why, I just know that most roads don't have them, and I myself have panicked several times thinking that I was going to hit pedestrians not dressed well enough to stand out bikers just about anywhere.

Not all of us can afford to get hybrid cars, alternate energy sources, etc. And, I really would like the meet the person who can have a compost with used toilet paper and not get smell complaints.... eek Unless you can already afford to own and take care of several acres of land.

I think, perhaps, some more reasonable suggestions could be given, though some of them in there are already. For example: reduce the amount of heating/air conditioning you use. Experiments have shown that a car will get better gas milage if air conditioning is not used and the windows rolled down. Above 45 mph, the wind resistance makes it more efficient to use air conditioning with the windows up. In the winter, I usually only heat my car enough to be comfortable with my coat and gloves on.

These are ways to help the environment, not necessarily what all people are willing to do. I mean some are willing to do the ones you consider to be silly. It really depends on your dedication, I mean I don't live by this, but it's good to change a few habits for the better of the environment.

I buy hemp clothing and all natural ingredients for soap, shampoo, cleaning supplies, deodorant etc. If I can remember some of the tips I do try to use them. Eventually I will get used to using them more and more.

At my sister's house they have a sign that is carved above their toilet. It says: if it's yellow let it mellow if its brown flush it down. You don't have to do it, but it seems to be working well at their house.

I enjoy my baths, I really do. It's not like I have to do the bucket thing every day. Especially in the summer I really don't mind the bucket Idea taking the place of my showers/baths.

I try to take the bus to town, instead of getting a parent to drive. I live in a rural area its all forests and very spread out houses. So if I want to do something with a friend I take a little bus that drives around the area. The town nearest to me (my sisters live) is pretty small and definitely safe for pedestrians, many people just walk to work. One less vehicle driving really makes a difference when it all adds up. I wish everyone would car pool or just not drive at all. But obviously that’s never going to happen and I don’t expect it to either.

Money is a definite issue for sure! Organic everything is pretty expensive and like you said with the hybrid cars all that stuff is very expensive. But if there is anything you can do, try and do it! For the animals, for the plants for the planet!
