Hokay,
so some local band dumped thier second guitarist, and they want me.
Practice is on Thursday.

I want to bring my guitar, amp, crybaby and the Boss GT-8 pedal effects board.
They're telling me I don't have to bring the pedal board, and one is saying I'm trying to show off.
What do i think?
I just want to bring my board cause it's my sound!
My sound will suck without it. It's my own unique sound! I can still play without it, but it's not my sound.
DDx
It's my first practice with them. The least I could do is show them what I'm capable of doing. You know, a good first impression (music wise).

Discuss:
What do you think of my predicament?
What would you do?
What effects do you have to create your unique sound?
Do you feel uncomfortable without all of your equiptment?(like me)

I'm a firm baliever in the "your sound is in your fingers" philosophy, myself, but I also think that if you're uncomfortable without your pedals, then you should play with your pedals if you can. Don't worry about what they think, because if your good enough and honestly arent "trying to show off", then they'll see that once they hear you play your best.

In short, I would take the pedalboard.

Yeah, I do believe in your philosiphy.
I have, like all guitarists have, something unique in my playing.
But when i play without the board, the SOUND (not playing) is poor.
Poor tone, poor distortion, no wah, can't easily switch from clean to dist.

I'm a guy who feels comfortable with everything, and nothing missing/left behind in general.
hey, I felt wierd for my entire trip to South America because i forgot my sunglasses.

Yeah, man. Take the board, you should sound your best and you're really not trying to show off so it shouldn't be a problem.

I have a Line 6 PODxtLive myself. It's great. 3nodding

Well... If they want you in the band... they'll have to put up with your sound. If you abuse your effects it could be annoying, but so long as you keep it to just your sound then you're probably fine. To me showing off is more to do with the player anyway. I'd be showing off if I went to someone's house and started playing for a bunch of people when I'm not invited to or something... that'd be showing off.

Mind you... if you look at Randy Rhoad's back story, he went to ozzy's audition with just a guitar and little clean amp, while everyone else was going out of their way, bringing in crazy gear and s**t to try to show off....

I'm with everyone else, take what you need, but don't abuse it. But I think that if you rely on a pedalboard, you should really get some new equipment for a better sound. Because that pedalboard isn't going to work forever.

@ Equinox:
Ah, a fello board user.
=D
Nice, man.

@Hylianhero:
No, I just have one clean, one distortion, one lead, and a fat tone (like for the song "Spirit in the Sky")
I don't need too much more than that, especially for a practice.

hey, it was Randy Rhoads.
He didn't need all that stuff. Anyne culd see that he was still amazing without all the fancy stuff. No way I'm as good as him.

Dun worry, I know what you mean.

@Headbanger:
Why should I get some new equipment?
Not too sure on what you mean...
=S
But i do have a CryBaby wah...
o.O

Im down with pedals. but you wont always have them at your disposal. SO yeah use em. But try to invent a sound with out them, with some of your amp settings, thats what they are there for.
