So for those who don't know what Tay is talking about, I have just added a link with the commercial.
It's truly amazing actually, it's very movie like which is a good thing. If your own an Xbox 360 you going to get this game.

Impressive. 3nodding
Once I get a Xbox 360, I'll pick this up just so I can finally finish the series. I can't say I'm a MAJOR fan of the series, or at least I don't think it's the great FPS/video game ever created like many of it's fan base does, but I think they're fun.

Yeah I mean the series as a whole never hit me that hard, maybe cause I'm still playing 2D fighters or age old RPG's but whatever the case has been it's never been able to rock my socks.
However this commercial shows a lot of potential, especially storyline wise. Both the Halo series and Half-Life series are really rising the bar for FPS and that's a very good thing, cause the last thing we need is more copies of Turok: Evolution. xd

I doubt the actual game is gonna be like that, and it didn't really have much relevance to what Halo is about. Random teaserness. I guess it's sort of wasted on me since I'm not a Halo fan, just like the 15 minute MGS4 trailer is friggin GODLY to me, but is wasted on anyone who hasn't played all of the MGS.
Forgive me for my harsh words, but in my opinion, as far as one and two go Halo can't be compared to Half-Life. HL is one of the rare a** FPS with a really great story. It's not just the general plot of stopping the mutant horde that makes it great, it's the atmosphere. HL 2 created a super in-depth environment. If you pay attention and look at the world around you, you can feel the oppression, see the gloomy state of even a simple playground, and meet unique characters, even ones not central to the story have their own quirks about them. Halo is a generic war zone setting, like Starship Troopers and none of the characters are memorable, nor do the environments have anything that sticks out above the norm and of course the story is pretty bland. But not only does HL2 have a great story, but it has far superior gameplay to halo. You have a MUCH higher level of interaction with the environment, you can move tons of things around to pile on top of each other, destroy or just get it out of the way. And there's the gravity gun. So many uses... Halo hasn't really raised the bar at all except maybe the scale of online multiplayer (Insane amounts of people in one game). Things that they call new are years old, and really not that impressive. Anyway, that's not to say that Halo is bad. I have enjoyed some great multiplayer experiences, but to compare it to Half Life is like comparing "You're Under Arrest" to "Cowboy Bebop." And to say it raises the bar is like saying Hollywood is raising the bar for original movies... It's just not so.

Well believe it or not but I don't own a single Halo game, I don't own an Xbox or an Xbox 360 and hell, I don't even play that many FPS games. But from what I know I can tell you that when Halo first jumped onto the gaming scene it definetly changed a lot, even if you loved it or hated it. I mean you simply can't deny Halo, it's already a highly known name in the gaming world and it hasn't had as much years as any of the Mario or Final Fantasy games.
And even if it does get so much attention, there has to be a reason for it, no? Things don't happen just because, the Halo series is clearly doing something right. Yes the story and setting may not be a deep as Hyrule or even Half-Life 2's cities but there's still enough that has had several gamers wanting more, it's an open ended story with several possibilties and twists, it just recently released a graphic novels with many Halo based stories. It's no Ocarina of Time, hell it may not even be a Forever Kingdom but it's good enough to keep you playing.
It's true too that gameplay wise Halo 2 is nothing compared to Half-Life 2, but they are in very different places and Halo still has a game left to surprise us. Although I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't any new or intersting weapon. You said it yourself, this is a Starship Troopers like setting so why would Master Chief need some crazy gun that let's him teleport or something zany like that, he just needs to kill stuff fast. But you also need to consider how is it playing Halo, is it slow? Do the controls work? Yes, yes they do. A lot in Halo is just about playing fast and knowing what to do and how to do it, and in those departments it doesn't fail. So even though gameplay may not be revolutionary like HL2, it certainly is what most FPS games should play like.
And Halo has definetly raised the bar in sound, I mean who doesn't know the opening theme by now? It something you hear and you know what it is, Bungie has payed a lot of attention to their musical score for the game, something that a lot of times isn't even remember in FPS games. It's not the first FPS game to come out with a good theme or score, but it's has done an extremely good job at it.
So with that said don't you think that any small studio when making an FPS game says, "let's aim to be like Turok: Evolution!". Of corse not, I mean what studio wouldn't want there game to be as if not even more successful than Halo, and that's what I mean by raising the bar. Halo's sales speak for itself, and it definetly proved itself in this competitive market. Sure a lot of different FPS have done things better than Halo, better graphics, cooler rides, better weapons, you name it Halo probably doesn't have it. But when the dust is cleared and the war is finished whose name is still left in your memory, Halo.
But on this closing statement let me just say this, I don't like Halo. I will not buy an Xbox 360 for Halo. But I respect it, as a fair gamer I have seen what it's done and I respect it. And make no mistake I will gladly bash it and burn it to the ground if any fanboys becomes a pain in my a**.

And make no mistake I will gladly bash it and burn it to the ground if any fanboys becomes a pain in my a**. That's the opposite of what I mean when I say raising the bar. True you must give props where props are due, and Halo is one of the quickest success stories out there, but I'm talking pure gaming innovation and quality. There are plenty of things that get sick amounts of popularity without earning it. The RE movies have huge box office numbers, Madden game releases get 8/10 on average, and Reality Shows are some of the most successful television series in existance. The pure sales numbers and the truely great things seldom match up. Because the masses, the majority of people who make those numbers are spoon fed crap from an early age. We all get told the same BS: money is the most important thing on earth, being unhealthily skinny is beautiful, having a long p***s makes you a better lover, ethnics are violent, big breasts are important... The list of BS just goes on. So rather than face alienation at the hands of their peers, most people sooner accept these things as true instead of questioning the value of said things. It's the macho culture of sports being manly, pure muscle being power, and war heroes being honorable with everything else being wussy that makes sports games, halo, and fps in general so successful. I do acknowledge Halo for it's success, and I have had alot of fun in it's depths, however, I stick by my arguement that it can't be compared to Half Life. The spirit of Halo, which is "just about playing fast and knowing what to do and how to do it," is the spirit of most FPS, which nowadays isn't very uncommon. There are plenty of other FPS that do it better. And saying "who doesn't know the opening theme by now?" whether true or not has no relevance with the quality. I could say "who doesn't know the jingle for Bounty Paper Towels by now?" (the quilted, quicker picker upper... bounty!) and everybody could have heard it. Popularity doesn't make it a good score. I personally thought the music in Halo was mediocre, but that's a matter of taste. People simply remember things through repetition. When studying a subject in school the basic principle of repetition, if you repeat a certain material enough time it (supposedly) sticks and you'll remember it. Since Halo is one of the superhyped games in the west, it could be as simple a reason as repetition that people remember (it sure as s**t is why we all know the damned bounty jingle). The bottom line is you can take two paths as someone in the entertainment bizz. The path to financial success, where you'd sell your soul to make a buck, by cashing out on the 3 reigning themes in the west: sex, mindless action, and copying something already successful. Or the path of an artist, where you take a risk on something different because you know the potential it has, or it has a deeper meaning for you. Half-Life has managed to be successful on both at once, giving FPS fans what they've come to expect, and experimenting with new themes other than fast paced shooting, all the while attached to a great story. I beleive Halo has only caitilized on the first path, by exploiting already existant themes and spit shining them with pretty graphics. Remember, I'm not saying Halo is bad, it's done most things right, and is fun by all means, it just can't live up to the hype, and I bleive it cannot be compared to the higher quality FPSers like Half Life. PS: As a person who has played through the story in HALO one, I can tell you there have been a few times when the Master Chief REALLY could have used a portal or gravity gun. Hell, I'd place a bet and say there's a time when ALL of us could have used either razz

Hell, I'd place a bet and say there's a time when ALL of us could have used either razz It's true that indeed that the Halo series reeks of mad green, I mean afterall they're the main game for Microsoft's Xbox 360 and we all know if anyone has got social corruption down to a T it's Microsoft's head honcho, Bill Gates. But to be honest, you had me a bit lost with this whole modern decay of society thing going on, I mean I know the world is in a very ******** up position right now, it's so messed up it would make anyone breakdown and cry, but you know what you and I are aware and as long as we know of the s**t that's going on in the world and we do things our way, were going to be the ones on top.
But your right, Halo is quite the market machine game. I can't think of a game that got as much advertisment as Halo 2 did, people were going nuts over this game months before release and I think the over the top advertisment really helped on that. But one thing you got to wonder, how did Halo become the poster boy for Xbox? You got to imagine that months and hell maybe a year or two before the release of the Xbox that Microsoft was going around testing games and seeing which would sell mad cow cash for them, it couldn't have been any game, cause if so Blinx the time cat would have been a launch title and would be Xbox's mascot. Here we are now and today, two systems later, and we got Master Chief and the Halo series as the leading game for the Xbox systems. I mean these things don't happen just because, the game was fresh, played well, looked good and hell for a FPS it could have been deemed innovative. When you think back, how many FPS games are actually innovative? So in comes Halo, with vechiles and weapons and all that jazz and people go crazy for it, I mean even if someone did before them and did it better, how would the masses know without playing the game or informing themselves. I mean it's unfortunate but true, and that in a way made Halo innovative to some degree if any. Again, no where near Half-Life but still a bit to get it's name out there.
Now with the release of Halo 3 and the news of Bungie's self bashing on Halo 2, this game has a lot of eyes watching it, what will it bring to the table? Will the Chief be able to use psychic powers? Will you be able to use three guns at a time? Whatever the case maybe, this may be a chance for the Halo series to really prove if it can be innovative or if it's just a soul less money maker indeed. I'll tell you this much, I'm not going to buy an Xbox 360 for Halo 3, so I guess there doing something wrong. Do you see any potential innovation for Halo 3?
By the way, was that theme song a commercial or something? I had no clue as to what it was. xd

Wow... I have never met a person who hasn't heard the bounty jingle: http://youtube.com/watch?v=B6VcqZwwTM4 They sing it at the very end (although this was technically before it was quilted, so they just sing "quicker thicker picker upper") And just for lols here's the original 1960's ad for bounty: http://youtube.com/watch?v=Z_O_tJGXsyo It's got magic sucking powers eek Anyway, there's always a chance Halo 3 will be the bee's knees, I am just pesimistic after being burned too many times... (Suikoden 3 crying ) So I'll stay skeptical till I see some harcore awesome. I mean, it's already got enough people supporting it, so I might as well play devil's advocate (If I don't who will?). The potential as far as atmosphere goes is almost unlimited. I mean, so much has not been said, they can still do so much with it. Potential as far as bungee is conscerned, I wouldn't keep my fingers crossed. Although I have been really behind on VG news recently so maybe there's something I simply don't know that has everyone psyched.

Well you know one thing that really has been on my mind out of late about Halo 3 was the release date, I don't for sure but wasn't Halo 3 going to be the Playstation 3 killer by being released on the same date? I mean what ever did happen to that promise? I mean it would suck if the final game was a rush job of sorts but to make such a big promise and then not follow through, seems a bit odd to me.
I'll try to find stuff about this and any other news revolved around Halo 3. 3nodding

Hopefully the delay means it's actually gonna be good. I have learned to crave delays, because when nintendo delays it means only good. When they first mentioned the Twilight Princess port on Wii I had my doubt, but after the awesome innovation of the wiimote in game, I can't imagine playing on the cube razz
Anyway back to Halo 3, what's with the baseball cap effect on chiefs helmet really? I mean, the visor is for blocking the sun which is why it has reflective properties so what purpose could it possible serve?
