Moyo sighed, brushing back a lock of Tain's mane absently before slowly pushing herself away from the mound of cubs.

Four cubs. Her first time, and out pop four of them. It was amazingly scary, but she was happy. Kiwi was a fantastic father and she thought she did a pretty good job herself, and the cubs were learning new things everyday.

Tain and Auri were bonding pretty closely. She hadn't really begun to think of her other sons, but she was sure if she spent more time with them, each male would show himself in his own way.

Her feet padded quietly on the cave ground before she met the dark night sky, sparkles twinkling every which way and inviting her to sit in the peaceful solitude a while. She couldn't resist.

A large boulder she had found to be quite comfortable was only ten feet from the den opening; plenty of room for privacy and yet close enough for her to hear or see anything of the usual or unusual.

Moyo silently jumped up onto the large, sun-warmed rock and laid down on her side, head tilting to look up at the stars--whom her father had once said were kings of Pride Rock from decades and decades ago, not the mere burning balls of gas they claimed to be--as they twinkled and danced their own dance.

"Hey there," the soft voice purred as Kiwi slipped towards her, as though he had simply been waiting for her to seek a bit of alone time. His green eyes sparkled with their usual warmth and love, making the scars along his throat seem almost invisible.

The large male quietly lifted himself up onto the boulder besides his love and he slid down to his belly, pressing himself to Moyo's side. The warmth between them tingled, but not with the electricity that had once been when they first began courting - no, now it was a peaceful familiarity, with the occasional rush of something new to come. Though the electricity had been amazing, Kiwi personally prefered this quiet joy, finding it to be reassuring of their everlasting love.

"Has anyone ever told you that you're beautiful?" he asked suddenly, looking down at her with a soft curiosity. Indeed, the female had grown even more since their cubs were grown, into the sleek and pretty adult she was destined to become. A purr rumbled in his throat and he leaned over to rasp his tongue across her ears.

"Motherhood sure hasn't dragged you down!" he teased, eyes glittering.

"Hey yourself," she greeted back, scooting over to make room for him on the average-sized rock. She turned slightly, facing him and resting her head on his shoulder. She could still see the stars, and now she was warm and beside her mate.

This was better than heaven.

Her ear ticked towards him at his first remark, followed by a small eyebrow nearing her forehead.

"Beautiful? Is that right? Odd, I remember a certain lion telling me such." She stopped talking to lean up and tug on his ear gently, teasingly, lovingly.

"It's kept me in shape, running around after those little heathens," she replied, burying her nose into his striped and smells-oh-so-good mane.

"What are you doing out so late? I would have thought you would be as exhausted as me. Oh, wait--you're the dad. Dads never get tired. Excuse me. I forgot," she teased, reminded of her own father and his unending spirit of energy.

"Well, that is what we're here for, after all," he said with a chuckle. As she spoke of the 'little heathens', a loving smile spread across his lips and he let out another laugh.

"Who knew they'd take so much after their mother?" His eyes flashed mischeviously and the corners of his mouth twitched into a grin. "I can't say I've ever behaved like that... no ma'am! Why, I was the best behaved lion you could ever ask for, even as a cub..."

"The best behaved lion, huh? Somehow, I get this strange feeling that I'm not entirely sure about that, but that's just me."

She smiled back, nodding.

"Not to change the subject or anything (or make it a deeper and serious one, at least), but the thought that we might not be bringing them up correctly sometimes flits into my head. Not that I don't think we are, but if we're not exactly preparing them that well. I don't know how we'd do it or how to tell that we're not, but still. It just worries me a little," she confessed. She avoided his gaze while she spoke but squeezed up next to him some more.

Kiwi frowned slightly, thinking about this as he pressed himself against her as well. "I hadn't thought about that... but I think they're alright. I mean... do you think? They're still young yet, so I don't think we need to worry about teaching them about the darker aspects of life yet... but..."

His voice was confilicted and he clearly sounded a bit worried. "I think we're doing okay," he said finally. "I was worried about being a parent, but they seem well adjusted..."

She nodded, putting her head higher on his shoulder.

"You're right. We just have to continute whatever it is we're doing, and hope for the best. And they're young, so they'll learn valuble lessons at an early age; all that good stuff.

"You're the best father to our children I could ever hope to have as a mate," she said softly, turning so her cheek rested instead of her chin. Her muzzle was close to his white ear, atop the fluffy striped mane.
