According to Lanzer's recent work journal entry (go to Gaia's Q&A forum to find it) he says that the DEMO of the battle system will be ready sometime next year. Here's what was said:

"Got a chance to play with another updated demo of the Battle System last week. More of the first stage is now completed and I hope that a demo would be ready by next year."

Looks like we may have a lot longer than we had anticipated... keep your fingers crossed, folks.

Besides, its only a few weeks until the new year anyways. I'm sure they aren't going to make us wait that long for it. Just time to get out the kinks and stuff.

all he said was next year for all we know it could be may till we get to play or it could be new years day its self it could be any time at all all i hope is that its sooner then later so i will be able to kill more monsters

I'm enthusiastic about the Battle System, and, I have faith that it will be an overall success (or at least decent).
Reason being is because I agree with the following quote that I heard from someone awhile back...

"The longer it takes to develop, the better the game will be..."

It sounds realistic and true to me.
