Let me preface this by saying, I am more or less happy with how the VCs are running things. I may or may not HATE Meru, nymphie, etc. for who they are and everything they do. But if I do or don't, that's a personal issue. The fact is, their VCing is at least decent,perhaps even pretty good.
So, they all got the PM from Zaeyde, that said "Do with the power as you will." This includes, if I am not mistaken, giving it up. Make someone else a VC, and give it up. Nobody is asking you to stay against your will, and nobody can force you to either resign or stay.
So if it is really that hard, I'm sure there are plenty of capable people who would love to give you a break, for a certain period of time or forever.
Just my two cents.

Well you can't have your cake and eat it too. With a position of power comes lots of criticism. You can't stop it, because even if you ban people from talking in the guild, they'll spread it through PM. If you don't want to deal with it, I can't see any other alternative.
