http://www.myspace.com/neonxheartsAbout Neon Hearts We're a still-forming band from Arizona. Imagine that Fall Out Boy's vibe, The Dresden Dolls' eccentricity, Regina Spektor's piano skeelz, The Academy Is' awesomeness, and musical theater's voices had some sort of bizarre musical baby and you'll have some idea of what we sound like. We don't really have any songs yet, but expect some stuff soon. :3 Band Members Miranda Loeber - Lead vocals, keyboard Katy Simmons - Vocals, guitar Elana Hirsch - Vocals, bass guitar ? ? - Drums, maybe vocals? Influences Musical theater (especially Rent and Tick Tick Boom) Panic! at the Disco Fall Out Boy The Academy Is... The Dresden Dolls Green Day Dashboard Confessional The Beatles Regina Spektor School dances Landscapers That's the info from my band's myspace :3 Anyway, this will be my thread for posting lyrics, etc., and getting feedback, and gaining support. I'm fully serious about this, so feel free to tell me if my lyrics ideas suck, or give me (constructive) criticism :3 Also, if anyone knows cool people in Arizona (in the Phoenix Metro area, and most preferably near or in Scottsdale) who are in the highschool age range, play drums or bass guitar, and aren't creepy stalkers, let me know, cause we need a drummer and a bassist

Lyrical Madness Vol. I
Just random things that I had to write down if I ever write some sort of song type thing. If you can find any continuity in this, you are a wiser person than I. Regina Spektor is inspirational. This stuff is not as cheesy as it sounds. At least, I hope not.
3/4, emphasis on the 1. DUMMMMM (dum dum) DUMMM (dum dum). To sway to. Little faster than a measure per 2 seconds.
Starts soft and slow and slightly happy, but a bit melancholy
Piano, "Us" (Regina Spektor. Listen to it.) esque.
(slow, detached in this first line)The light (two three) dims (two three) Singulars (change word here? MUST MUST MUST be 3 syllables.) swim Through the crowd (two) To make a pair Twirling hair Biting lips Hands on hips (two three one two three one) Arms 'round (one two three) necks (two three one two three one) As the song changes key In the most subtle fashion The air fills with passion And love (two three one) (slight discord)Maybe (one two three) not (stacatto, bitter) (two three one two three one two... building to a slight crescendo
(Chorus, with... desperation? loneliness? who knows... maybe sarcasm?) This won't last forever, But from now to never Let's hold (two three stacatto) on (two three stacatto) tight (two three one two stacatto) Through all (two three held) this (two three held) night Of enchantment and wonder And lightning and thunder May crash but we won't hear a thing (two three one two three one two three one)
(hushed, melancholy) There's a girl on the side Watching couples (three, held-ish) glide (something with three syllables, like "on the floor" or "through the mist" or something that actually makes sense... help?) (two three one two three one two three one) And she's falling apart, But she holds (two) her heart With her arms (two three) crossed (two three) over her chest She's waiting for someone To ask for (three) just one Dance To offer his hand And with it a plan To put the pieces back in place And to, for once, see her face
(Chorus, this is the "climax," if you will, but don't give connotations to that D: of the song... some changes to the basic melody, probably)
(Back down to hushed and quiet) The song is slowing back down And the pieces lie Shattered on the ground No one has seen her Has asked her, has given her One (two three) chance (two) For one (two three) dance And the lights (two) are bright, And who (two) knew light Could feel (two three) so (two three) dark (two three one two) When you know that with dark Went your chance (two three one two) She's still waiting there on the side (two three one) Watching happy (three) couples (two three, stacatto) glide (something with three syllables, like "on the floor" or "through the mist" or something that actually makes sense... help?) (two three one two three one two three one) And she's falling apart, But she holds (two) her heart With her arms (two three) crossed (two three) over her chest (slow finish)
And now for just random rambling of things that sound or look or are cool or things I want to do or whatever. Bit of lyrics, bit of concept.
Nothing and everything. Mix. Everything. Absolutely everything. Theater. Rock. Pretty. Loud. Funny. Sad. Happy. Angry. Covers of everything. "Hold On" The Secret Garden. "A Thousand Miles" Vanessa Carlton. "Money Can't Buy Me Love" The Beatles. "Good Day" The Dresden Dolls. "Black Mamba" The Academy Is. "This Ain't A Scene" Fall Out Boy. Open sound. Belting. Pretty. Loud. Expressive. Emotion. Performance. Do well live. Keyboards. Guitars. Drums. Changes with every song. No genre. Mish-mash. We are neon hearts in darkness. You go to us when you fall. Emo photoshoot in a playground. MAKE ELANA GET AIM. Do what we want. No conformity allowed. Eccentricity. Irrelevence. Thought-provoking. Audience. "Child, oh child, hold on." Anecdotes. First song I ever wrote. Katy does energetic songs, I do emotive/slow songs? Not a huge production. Nothing like "Nothing Rhymes With Circus" tour; blecchhh. Keep it small. Different clothes. Always go out to meet fans (if we ever get any). Send demos to Decaydance; Pete's always posting about doing that. The lead singer from Paramore is only 16, we're not too young. Coffeehouse. Find out what Elana wants to do. Find a drummer. And another guitarist. Maybe one of us could learn a little simple guitar. Fun. Switch it up; have different people play different things sometimes. No isolating the drummer. Michaela plays the guitar, but is too indifferent for a band. Kacy plays the drums, but again, too shallow/indifferent. Record us singing and take pics so we have SOMETHING for the site. Regina Spektor > everything. Sorta. Not EVERYTHING.

Lyrical Madness Vol. II
Things that I thought of after finishing my math test that I've mostly forgotten. I need to type them out so I don't forget completely. Just little shards of things that sound poetic. Not all in one song, probably. Lots of experiments with rhyming patterns and alliteration.
Edit: I rearranged things and wrote down possible titles. Some are rather wordy and long-winded. razz Things in parentheses are part of the titles, things after hyphens aren't.
Metamorphosis (Time For Chance, Time To Dance) - The 7th grade -> 9th grade song
The chaperones' chagrin
Playing matchmaker on darkened dance-floors
Now it's live my life Now it's do or die Through with expectations And frustrations And hesitations
Dreams within dreams of happy ever afters
Instafame (We Play Gigs In Deserted Venues) - The ambition song
We're everything you've ever heard and nothing that you've never seen Up here we're near to turning white, down there you all are turning green
There's an argument in my brain "You'll never amount to anything" and "you're destined to be something great"
Stone statue with ambitions to be something wonderful and living and bright She hibernates in the day and stands on a stage singing songs at night
Empty auditoriums and dusty stages and musty curtains and rusty sets
Reality is over, you can all go home now
Tree Of Life (I Draw Every Leaf On Every Branch Until It Looks Like Nothing) - The hippie/childhood song
The shade's gone now that they're trimming the branches
Bites from the scarlet apple of knowledge Naivete dissolves away
Too young to be wise, too wise to stay young Profound slips of my lips and wags of my tongue
Bright Lights In Dark Nights (We Are Neon Hearts In Darkness) - The optimism song
The candles are lit, and the flames will never go out We're not growing out of this "phase" that we're in now They see the gloom and doom, But we, we see the light

Oh, dear. You've done in in complete reverse-order, haven't you?
You get the rhythm section first! Oh, well, too late for that, then. Just make sure at least one of them is good. Because a fantasic bass or drum can kind of make up for the mediocre/crappy other.

Clockwork Sun Oh, dear. You've done in in complete reverse-order, haven't you?

Waitwhat? I'm a pretty good singer (in my opinion), for your informationnnn -.- And it's not really gonna be too big on drums, more on the melodicnessness Think The Dresden Dolls or Regina Spektor; it's more voice and piano than drums, the drums just complete the sound Anyway, it's not my fault that I don't know anyone who plays bass or drums That's why I'm asking pretty much everyone I know if they know someone

New lyrics!
Lyrical Madness, Vol. III
Tree of Life (Layers Peel Away, And Light Is All That's Left)
The shade's gone now that they're cutting the branches Raining to the ground like fallen angels Sanctuary disappears, and the world remains
We huddled beneath those branches Playing orphans and pirates and witches and We huddled there beneath the leaves Sheltered and held and innocent, innocent
Bites from the crimson apple, Naivete slips away Branches rain to the ground like the fallen angels Sanctuary disappears, now the world remains
Too young to be wise, too wise to stay young Profound slips of my lips and wags of my tongue
We would put our pencils to paper Drawing fairies and dryads and mermaids and We put our paints to canvases Colors and lines and innocent, innocent
Sketch on the fabric all morning Paint over it all day Turpentine washes colors out like tainted melodies Sanctuary disappears, now the world remains
Too old to be creative, too creative to grow old (maybe just revert to the young/wise thing?) A mind of shadows, a heart of gold
Now we hide in our writing Writing lovers and dreamers and diers and We hide there beneath the weight of words Phrases and metaphors and still innocent, innocent
Clear your mind of reality Let words just flow away Prose and poetry are like the silent secrets Sanctuary disappeared, now the world remains
Too real to be a fantasy, too fantastic to be real The tales we keep on spinning on an endless wheel
The shade's gone now that they're cutting the branches Raining to the ground like fallen angels Sanctuary disappears, and the world remains
And an update:
Elana is going to play bass, and Katy's gonna learn guitar <3
